Kaimuki 25, Kalaheo 13, FINAL

———-

7:49: Kaimuki runs the clock out and Kalaheo doesn’t call time. The Bulldogs win 25-13 in one of the wildest game of the year.

7:43: Kaimuki’s defense is really starting to up its game, sacking Alana consecutively to force another Kalaheo punt. The Bulldogs take the ball back with 2:20 left on their own 12. Look for them to run out the clock here.

7:34: TOUCHDOWN BULLDOGS. Stephens gets his second score of the day on a 2-yard rush. He’s now up to 115 yards on 16 carries. The two-point conversion is no good but Kaimuki stretches its lead to 25-13 with 4:40 left.

7:22: Alana is PICKED OFF by Siosaia Nisa at the Kaimuki 30. The Bulldogs get the ball back with 7:41 remaining.

7:17: TOCUHDOWN KAIMUKI. The Bulldogs finally break through in the second half as Asuega-Fualaau gets his second touchdown of the day on a 25-yard scamper. The snap on the PAT is muffed, but the Bulldogs take the lead back and have a 19-13 advantage with 8:25 left.

7:12: Kaimuki takes over at the Kalaheo 35 after the punt, 10:08 to go, still tied at 13.

7:09: Things just got even more wild after Kalaheo picks up a first down, but a Mustang player is ejected after a blindside targeting block.

FOURTH QUARTER

7:06: End of the third. Still tied at 13 with 12 minutes to decide if this wet and wild one will end in regulation.

7:05: Kaimuki turns the ball over on downs and Kalaheo takes over from its own 41.

7:00: It’s Kalaheo’s turn to go three-and-out, and they have to punt from its own 2. Kaimuki starts the next drive from the Kalaheo 20 after the return.

6:57: Both teams are having trouble moving the ball in the pouring rain. The Bulldogs punt again, and Kalaheo takes over from its own 25, 3:27 to go in the third.

6:52: Kaimuki forces another three-and-out. After an impressive punt from the end zone, Kaimuki starts from its own 40 with 5:24 left in the third.

6:47: Just as it’s driving, Kaimuki fumbles YET AGAIN, giving Kalaheo the ball back on its own 12 with 7:58 left in the third.

6:39: Kaimuki forces a three-and-out. The Bulldogs will start from their own 10 after the punt with 9:59 left in the third.

6:34: We’re underway here in the second half. Kalaheo will start from the Kaimuki 40 after the kickoff and a personal foul penalty on the Bulldogs.

THIRD QUARTER

6:15: Kalaheo runs out the clock to end the first half and boy, was it a wild one. We’re tied at 13 and the Mustangs will receive to start the second half.

6:09: We’re tied again after Jonah Stephens takes a handoff from the 32 and refuses to go down, dragging some defenders with him for the last five yards or so. The PAT is no good and it’s 13-all with 1:20 left in the half.

5:59: Things are getting sloppy for Kaimuki. Kekoa Alana finds Noa Lapera for a 45-yard TOUCHDOWN. The Mustangs go for two and don’t convert, but they lead 13-7 with 3:22 left in the half.

5:56: Kalaheo tries an onside kick but Kaimuki recovers at midfield. But then the Bulldogs fumble AGAIN and the Mustangs take over at the Kaimuki 45 with 4:11 left in the half.

5:46: Scratch that, it was actually a TOUCHDOWN for Kalaheo, recovered by Alan Aber in the end zone. Jaden Amasiu‘s PAT is good and we’re tied at 7 with 5:18 left in the first half.

5:45: Kaimuki’s offense is struggling to even snap the ball in the mud. There were three fumbles on snaps alone and the Bulldogs have to punt. The Mustangs then BLOCK the punt and take over at the Kaimuki 4 with 5:18 left in the half.

5:37: WOW. Kalaheo fumbles it back on the very next play and Kaimuki’s offense goes back out there on its own 15 with 9:39 to go in the second quarter.

5:36: Kalaheo gets the ball right back, falling on a fumble after a bad snap at the Kaimuki 8.

5:30: Penalties set the Mustangs back all the way to the Kaimuki 35 on fourth-and-goal, and Kekoa Alana ALMOST scores but is four yards short on a 31-yard rush.

SECOND QUARTER

5:28: End of the first quarter. Kalaheo is driving and has a fresh set of downs at the Kaimuki 4.

5:22: The Bulldogs pick up a quick first down, but the Kalaheo defense holds them to just that. After a failed fake punt, the Mustangs take over at the Kaimuki 47 with 3:39 left in the first.

5:17: Kaimuki’s defense forces a quick three-and-out. Bulldogs defensive lineman Sama Paama already looks like a man among boys, and the Mustangs are double teaming him accordingly. Kaimuki starts its next drive from its own 30 after the punt, 7:12 left in the first.

5:12: After a quick and overpowering drive, Kaimuki gets on the board first after five straight rushes, capped by Naomas Asuega-Fualaau‘s 4-yard score. Chrisna Chann‘s PAT is good and the Bulldogs lead 7-0 with 9:02 left in the first.

5:08: Kaimuki begins the game from its own 47 after the opening kickoff, a pooch kick that didn’t go very far.

FIRST QUARTER

5:05 p.m.: Kalaheo wins the toss and elects to defer to the second half. Kailua’s field is very muddy at the moment due to today’s heavy rain across Oahu, and there’s even a couple of puddles on the field. Weather will certainly be a factor in this one.
