It’s downright spooky.
This is the third time in the last five years that plans for a Saint Louis at Mililani football game have been disrupted.
In 2014, Hurricane Iselle passed by, causing the Aug. 9 Crusaders at Trojans to be put off for one week. Ultimately, Mililani prevailed 63-47 in a battle pitting Saint Louis sophomore Tua Tagovailoa against Mililani junior McKenzie Milton. Those two are being talked about as candidates for college’s Heisman Trophy right now.
That is also Mililani’s only win against Saint Louis in seven meetings.
In 2016, one quarter was in the books with the Crusaders holding a 7-0 lead when the lights went out. The lights came up briefly and then went back down. The game was canceled and not made up. That partial game featured Tagovailoa as a senior and Trojans sophomore QB Dillon Gabriel, who is now a senior.
Here we are in 2018 and with Hurricane Lane getting closer on Tuesday, officials canceled all football games in the state for this weekend, including Saint Louis at Mililani.
So what is it with these two?
“How does it happen like that?” Cal Lee asked rhetorically Wednesday afternoon. “Somebody upstairs thinks maybe we shouldn’t be playing.”
Like in 2016, no makeup game for 2018 will be scheduled, according to newly released schedules.
Mililani coach Rod York thinks there’s still a chance that the game can be made up in October.
“We should play the game, somehow,” he said.
York stressed the importance of staying safe and for the players to take care of their families as the hurricane gets closer.
“Every year it seems, we get hurricane warnings so you prepare for the worst, and it’s a little more intense right now because it seems like this one is going to hit.”
A silver lining for the Trojans, according to York: Three players, receiver Reichel Vegas, running back Kilifi Malepeai and defensive tackle Mykah Tuiolemotu, have extra time to heal from minor ankle injuries.
York said Gabriel was not going to be able to practice until Thursday due to a 104-degree temperature and strep throat, and receiver Kanoa Gibson is out due to a broken collarbone suffered Tuesday.
Saint Louis (2-0, 1-0 ILH Open) is scheduled to return to action Sept. 7 at Aloha Stadium against Kahuku (3-0, 2-0). Mililani (3-0, 1-0 OIA Open) is slated to play at St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) on Aug. 31. Bosco is ranked No. 1 in the nation by MaxPreps and No. 2 by USA Today.
Football gods came through for Mililani who got pretty banged up against Kamehameha. They’re gonna need all the rest they can to represent Hawai’i against Bosco.
Again, Cal Lee, the incessant ILH whiner, whines even more going so far as blaming god for all of this. Typical ILH Agenda bs. It’s getting tiring pointing out the obvious, but lucky thing my boys toomeke and awright!!! understand what it’s like to be born hated. RRFL!

Just my thoughts, “no make up game is schedule for 2018”?? How can this be if ILH counts ALL games for their record? All OIA open have make up including Punahou/Farrington. I cannot see a big swing game like Mililani and StL. not happening. If I was Punahou, I would demand it. Also Play It at Mililani. What has StL got to lose? The game?
