GAME NIGHT 8/4: Kailua/Mililani

No. 3 Mililani 44, Kailua 6, FINAL

Mililani punts for the second time tonight. Weber leads the Surfriders into Mililani territory and that’ll do it.

Banks returns the free kick to the Kailua 12. The Trojans come up short on fourth down and Kailua takes over at the 6. A facemask penalty moves the ball to the 21 and Weber connects with Kamryn Kahoonei, who breaks free and is gone. TOUCHDOWN KAILUA. PAT blocked. 7:20.

Cole Weber takes over the QB for Kailua to start the fourth quarter. He’s also been busy as the punter and has this one blocked out of the end zone by Shane Kady. SAFETY. 10:18.


Kai Banks returns the punt to the Kailua 42. On second down Banks takes a swing pass to the right and breaks free for a 42 yard score. TOUCHDOWN MILILANI. PAT good. 1:22.

The second half will start with the running clock in effect. Kailua receives the kickoff and goes three and out. The Surfriders line up to punt but fake it and Lahaina Kane picks up 3 yards up the middle and a first down. Kailua punts again but the ball is muffed and the Surfriders recover at the Mililani 44. A hold moves Kailua back into its own territory for another punt.

Kailua picks up three first downs to get to the 44 and calls two timeouts with :02 left. Ho-Mook is hit as he throws and Skylar Kaai recovers the fumble to end the first half.

Gabriel escapes pressure and takes off down the left side for a 35-yard gain to the Kailua 10. Dreyston Barquis scores from the 1. TOUCHDOWN MILILANI. PAT good. 2:36.

Kailua goes three-and-out for the sixth time and punts from its 25. Mililani is called for running into the kicker and Kailua has its first first down of the night. Mililani’s Mykah Tuiolemotu makes two tackles for loss, including a sack, and Kailua punts again.

Kailua punts and Mililani takes over at the 33. On fourth-and-1, Malepeai bulls up the middle to the Kailua 4. But he stays down and is helped off the field by two teammates. Raysen Motoyama is initially stopped in the middle but spins away and finds room around the left side. TOUCHDOWN MILILANI. PAT good. 7:04.

 

Kailua again punts from its own end zone. Mililani takes over at the 21, but the Surfriders push Malepeai back on two carries. A 40-yard field goal attempt goes wide right.


After Kailua’s third punt, Malepeai picks up 19 yards on two carries, Gabriel hits Chang for 22 yards and connects with Vegas on a post from 18 yards out. TOUCHDOWN MILILANI. PAT good. 1:16.

Trojans sack Ho-Mook back at the 2 on third-and-2. Surfriders punt and Vegas makes the fair catch at the Kailua 22. Gabriel goes right to Ryan Chang. TOUCHDOWN MILILANI. PAT good. 4:33 Q1.

Mililani’s second drive begins with a false start and the Trojans go three-and-out. Asher Pilanca downs the punt inside the Kailua 1.

Raynen Ho-Mook starts at quarterback for Kailua. The Surfriders’ first possession results in a loss of 6 yards and Kailua punts.

Dillon Gabriel goes 4-for-4 for 55 yards, with two completions going to Reichel Vegas, and Kilifi Malepeai finishes a six-play drive with a 26-yard run. TOUCHDOWN MILILANI. PAT good. 9:37 Q1.

Mililani wins the toss and will receive.

Prior to the coin flip, Mililani observes a moment of silence in honor of freshman Kekiai Hett, a JV defensive lineman who recently passed away.


Mililani wins the JV game 50-18. The varsity will get started around 7 p.m.

    Fumble was recovered by #17 MAYSON FOUMAI to end the first half.
