GAME NIGHT 9/15: Kapolei/Farrington

9:46: Afe-Alaivanu rushes for 3 yards, but fumbles and Kapolei’s Shove recovers.


9:45: Farrington calls timeout with 0:46 left. Govs have a fourth and 2 from the Kapolei 32.

9:42: Kapolei calls its last timeout. 1:17 to go.

9:38: Farrington takes over on downs on its 48.

9:34: Kapolei starts from its 47. A fumbled snap results in a 21-yard loss. Rapis is in at QB. Now, Bailey returns at QB. Gomez appears to have been hurt on the previous series.

9:33: Govs are punting. 4:50 to go in the game.

9:27: On fourth down from the 15, Gomez takes a huge hit from Faletufuga and throws a pass to Sinai-Taheed Robello in the back corner of the end zone. He makes the catch but is over the end line. Incomplete.

9:26: Gomez is sacked by Farrington’s Joshua Matagi for a 15-yard loss. But Kapolei gets 30 yards on two personal-foul penalties on Farrington.

9:22: An apparent TD throw from Gomez to Kaluhiwa is negated by a hands to the face penalty. The Hurricanes lose 18 yards to the 30.

9:17: Mason Gomez is in at QB for Kapolei. The Hurricanes have a fourth down and 10 at the Farrington 39. Gomez finds Kaluhiwa for a 27-yard gain to the Govs’ 12.

9:14: Kalani catches a pass, but is hit by Kapolei’s Shove and fumbles. Hurricanes teammate Sonny Semeatu recovers. Kapolei ball at the 50.

9:10: Third quarter ends.

9:09: A Chase Sedeno sack puts a crimp in the Hurricanes’ offense. They punt. Farrington ball at its 33.

9:08: Christian Rapis now in at QB for Kapolei.

9:07: Landan Shove intercepts an Afe-Alaivanu pass for Kapolei at the Farrington 45.

9:04: The Hurricanes’ drive stalls and they punt. Farrington ball at its 32.

9:01: A Bailey pass to De’zhuan Stribling goes for 16 yards to the Farrington 45.

8:59: Hurricanes are going for it on a fourth down and inches from at their 35. Bailey keeps it for a 4-yard gain and a first down at the 39.

8:53: Tanuvasa goes off right tackle for a 4-yard TD. Cabuco makes the extra-point kick. FARRINGTON 13, KAPOLEI 0, 6:33 left in third quarter.

8:50: Calijah Mareko intercepts a Bailey pass. Farrington ball at the Kapolei 14. Two penalties move the ball to the Hurricanes’ 4.

8:48: Two Waiolama 11-yard runs pick up two Kapolei first downs. The ball is at the Hurricanes’ 29.

8:46: Kapolei’s first possession of the second half starts at its 7.

8:44: Govs have a fourth down and 3 at the Kapolei 36. They are punting.

8:42: On the first play of the second half, Afe-Alaivanu hits Kalani with a 20-yard pass to the Kapolei 43.

8:16: A little controversy on the punt, but the refs got it right, apparently. Demetry Shoaf, the Farrington punter, was running to his right and kicked it at the last second while being tackled by Maceal Afaese. A flag was throw, most likely for roughing the kicker, but eventually no penalty was called. It’s OK to tack

8:13: Farrington has a fourth down and 7 from the Hurricanes’ 45. Kapolei calls timeout. Punt team is expected.

8:10: While being hit, Afe-Alaivanu throws a 21-yard completion to Millare. He then finds Kalani for 16 yards to the Kapolei 48. 0:58 to go in the first half.


8:09: The heavy drizzle has stopped.

8:08: Farrington has a third and 6 from its 15. Kapolei calls timeout. 1:43 to go in first half.

8:06: Govs start their next possession at their 11.

8:04: A bad snap causes an 8-yard Kapolei loss and they eventually punt. 2:40 to go in first half.

8:02: Andre Elijah Juan Cabuco’s 20-yard field goal attempt goes wide right. Hurricanes take over on the 20.

8:00: After a 1-yard gain by Afe-Alaivanu, Farrington has a fourth and goal from the 3. The field-goal unit is in.

7:59: The Govs have a third and goal from the 4.

7:58: A 15-yard penalty against Kapolei for a chop block and two Kalani runs get Farrington a first and goal at the 6.

7:52: Fake punt!! A direct snap to up back Tanuvasa results in a 13-yard gain and a first down at the Hurricanes’ 38.

7:51: A heavy drizzle is coming down. Farrington has a fourth down and 2 from its 49. The punt team is coming on.

7:38: An Afe-Alaivanu pass to Raymond Millare gets one first down, and then a Samsen Tanuvasa 11-yard run gets another. The ball is at the Farrington 41.

7:46: Bailey’s fourth-down pass from the 18 falls incomplete. Farrington ball at its 18.

7:43: First quarter ends.

7:42: Bailey fires a bullet to Sinai-Taheed Robello on a slant for a 16-yard gain to the Govs’ 17.

7:41: A 9-yard Bailey to Keoki Kaluhiwa pass goes for a first down to the Farrington 33.

7:37: A screen pass from Bailey to Waiolama goes for 27 yards to the Farrington 46.

7:35: Govs quarterback Chris Afe-Alaivanu eludes a heavy pass rush and lets go a bomb to an open Selau Kalani in the deep right corner of the end zone. A funky 2-point conversion try fails on a bad snap. FARRINGTON 6, KAPOLEI 0, 3:16 left in first quarter.

7:31: Farrington’s Cameron Faletufaga throws Ezekiel Waiolama for a 6-yard loss. On third down, Bailey is pressured into throwing an incompletion. Kapolei punts for the third time. Govs ball at the Hurricanes’ 41.

7:30: Bryson Alualu sacks Bailey for a 3-yard loss.

7:29: Pass interference against Farrington brings the ball to the Kapolei 20.

7:28: Hurricanes start their third possession at their 5.

7:26: The Govs will punt for the second time. So far, after two possessions by each team, this is a defensive slugfest with a fast-moving clock. 4:52 left in first quarter.

7:25: Farrington’s second possession starts at its 44.

7:24: This time, Kapolei gets 8 yards before punting.

7:20: The Hurricanes do not get a first down on three plays and are punting.

7:18: Kapolei gets 2 yards on three plays and will punt.

7:17: Noa Bailey in at QB for the Hurricanes.

7:13: Kapolei won the coin toss and elected to receive. Farrington will defend the North end zone.

7:12: The national anthem and Hawaii Pono’i have been played. The captains are meeting at midfield.


6:39: The JV game just ended. Final score–Kapolei 43, Farrington 34.
