GAME NIGHT 8/19: McKinley/Kalaheo

McKinley leads the series 12-8 but Kalaheo won last year’s meeting for its only victory of the season. Kalaheo has never won the week after forfeiting a game. McKinley has not won a game since 2013, a span of 26 games with four forfeits included.

9:21: Kalaheo runs the clock out and this thing is final. McKinley still searches for its first win since 2013.

9:18: TURNOVER ON DOWNS, KALAHEO GETS THE BALL BACK WITH 45 SECONDS LEFT.

9:15: Lopes-Liutolo and Ahina connect again, Tigers now on the Kalaheo 29 with 1:11 left.

9:12: MCKINLEY RECOVERS THE ONSIDE KICK. TIGERS BALL AT MIDFIELD WITH 1:37 LEFT TO GO.

9:09: THEY DON’T GET IT. Lopes-Liutolo’s pass is too high and the Tigers will onside kick with 1:39 left.

9:05: TOUCHDOWN TIGERS. Lopes-Liutolo tosses one beautifully to the back of the end zone to Kaiwi Ahina for a 15-yard score. Timeout McKinley…

9:04: Tigers really driving. Now on the Kalaheo 15 with 1:46 left. This is it for sure.

9:00: Winding down here with the Tigers driving. Now on the Kalaheo 29. They’re running frequently for a handful of yards each play. Looks like they’re planning for this to be their last drive. Maybe they go for two if they score? 2:42 left.

8:50: KALAHEO IS BACK IN THE LEAD. Neufeldt and Byron Rellin connect on a 34-yard bomb, an absolute prayer that Rellin had to fight for. Amasiu’s kick is good. 27-20 Kalaheo with 7:43 to go.

8:45: Buchanan is picked off by Jordan Elliot and the Mustangs will start its next drive from the McKinley 48 with 8:26 to go.

8:39: Tigers will start their next drive from their own 30.

8:37: KALAHEO TIES IT BACK UP. Amasiu finishes what he started and punches it in for a one-yard score. After a bad snap on the PAT, the 2-point conversion is no good.

FOURTH QUARTER

8:30: WHAT A RESPONSE BY THE MUSTANGS. Jaden Amasiu returns the kickoff all the way to the 1 yard line to end the third.

8:27: TOUCHDOWN TIGERS. Laulii Iosefa pounds a handoff nine yards into the endzone. Extra point is blocked. But the Tigers take their first lead of the game, 20-14, with 14 seconds left in the third quarter.

8:18: Teams exchange three-and-outs and the Mustangs will take over once we resume play from an injury timeout.

8:04: Three-and-out for the Tigers. The Mustangs will start from their own 35 after a punt.

8:00: Tigers will start from their own 34 after the kickoff.

THIRD QUARTER


7:42: Both teams get the ball back in the final seconds of the half in a wild sequence, but none score. We’re tied at 14 heading into the half. The Tigers will receive to start the second half with momentum on their side.

7:37: Kalaheo fumbles the punt return and the Tigers take over with 27 seconds left at the Mustangs’ 43 yard line.

7:31: Tigers take over after Randy Lau picks off Neufeldt on fourth down. McKinley ball on their own 27 with 2:35 left in the half. Let’s see if they have another score in them.

7:26: WE’RE ALL TIED. The tigers take full advantage of their field position when Alexandria Buchanan and Ace Asis connect on a 16-yard touchdown pass. They then go for two and they get it when Buchanan tosses an easy pass to Lopes-Liutolo. 14-14, 5:56 to go.

7:23: Kalaheo fumbles and it’s RECOVERED BY MCKINLEY at the Kalaheo 16 with 6:05 left.

7:19: Three-and-out for the Tigers. Injury timeout with 6:32 left in the half.

7:15: Three-and-out for the Mustangs. McKinley starts its next drive on its own 27 with 8:01 left to go in the half.

7:10: Mustangs will start their next drive from the McKinley 42.

7:08: THE TIGERS ARE BACK IN BUSINESS. Siolei Lopes-Liutolo punches it in from the goal line but the extra point is blocked. Regardless, it was imperative for the Tigers to score there. 14-6 with 10:02 left to go in the half.

SECOND QUARTER

6:55: End of the first. Mustangs lead 14-0.

6:53: Neufeldt is picked off by Ezekiel Samuelu, Tigers will start from their own 10 with 1:21 left in the quarter.

6:48: Three-and-out for McKinley. Kalaheo came to PLAY today on both sides of the ball. After the punt, Kalaheo will start from the McKinley 46 with four minutes to go in the quarter.

6:44: Tigers will start their next drive on their own 20.

6:43: TOUCHDOWN MUSTANGS. Neufeldt executes a perfect play action pass to Curtis Chung for a three-yard touchdown. Amasiu’s PAT is good. 14-0 with 5:17 left in the first.

6:41: The Mustangs drive all the way to the McKinley 3 and go for it on fourth-and-goal. They call timeout with 5:23 to go in the first.

6:34: McKinley fumbles it on their first play of scrimmage. KALAHEO BALL from the McKinley 49.

6:32: Tigers look to respond from their own 41.

6:30: WHAT A START for the Mustangs. They drive right down the field with ease, capped by a 9-yard touchdown pass from Justus Neufeldt to Jordan Neufeldt. Jaden Amasiu‘s PAT is good. Kalaheo leads 7-0 with 10:21 to go in the first.

6:26: The Mustangs will start from their own 49 after a nice kickoff return.

6:24: Kalaheo wins the toss and will receive.

FIRST QUARTER

6:08: We’re about 10 minutes away from kickoff. But first, an observation: McKinley’s roster looks about twice as big as McKinley’s in terms of total bodies. They got their big band here in full force and look poised.


5:49 p.m.: Kickoff will be delayed as the JV game between Kaiser and Radford just ended, with the Cougars winning 15-0.
