GAME NIGHT 10/7: Kaimuki/Pearl City

It should be a fun weekend of football as the OIA Division I playoffs begin while the ILH regular season ends and the OIA D-II playoff race gets sorted out.

Pearl City (5-1, 5-0 D-II) can clinch the regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the playoffs with a win over the Bulldogs (4-3, 4-2), who need a win to feel good about their playoff chances. A loss and a 4-3 Kaimuki team could be left out of the four-team tournament.

HISTORY: The all-time series is tied 7-7-2 with the Chargers winning the last two meetings.

10:36—Kaimuki 20, Pearl City 17 final.

10:30 —Simon takes a big hit as he releases a deep ball and Daniel Nguyen comes up with an interception at the 10 for Kaimuki. Bulldogs ball with 1:24 left.

10:28—Pearl City forces Kaimuki to punt from its end zone, a long return is called back by a penalty. Chargers take over at the Kaimuki 48 with 2:16 left.

10:20—Pearl City finding success with the ground game for the first time tonight. A facemask on third-and-11 extends the drive. Encroachment on fourth-and-2 sets up first-and-goal at the 10.  Drive stalls at the 8 and Pearl City lines up for a tying field goal. They fake it and the pass to the goalline is incomplete. Kaimuki takes over with 3:49 left.

10:00—Kaimuki 20, Pearl City 17 end 3rd qtr

9:50—Pearl City recovers and onside kick and puts together a 5-play, 47-yard drive. Joe Maneafaiga scores on a 12-yard run on his first carry of the game. PAT failed. Chargers trail 20-17, 3:54 Q3.


9:44—Kaimuki’s Andries Toussaint returns and interception to the Pearl City 31 and a personal foul moves the ball to the 16. Solomon gets to the 1 on a keeper and scores on a QB sneak. PAT blocked. Kaimuki leads 20-11 5:22 Q3.

9:31—Kaimuki goes for it on fourth-and-1 at its 37 and Pearl City’s Carson Hernandez drops Seei-Cleveland for a 3-yard loss. Chargers take over at the Bulldogs’ 34. Pearl City goes three-and-out and punts.

8:57—Halftime, Kaimuki 14, Pearl City 11.

8:42—Pearl City answers with a 70-yard touchdown pass from Kekainalu Simon to Calvin Mock. Penalty moves the ball inside the 1 for the PAT. Isaiah Asinsin sneaks in the 2-point conversion. Pearl City trails 14-11, 3:56 Q2.

8:36—Kaimuki’s drive is extended when Pearl City is flagged for 12 players on the field on fourth down. Bulldogs score four plays later on Daniel Nguyen’s 10-yard TD run on a reverse. PAT good. Bulldogs up 14-3, 5:20 Q2.

8:16—Pearl City punts again but gets the ball back when Brody Padilla recovers a backward pass. Chargers convert with a 35-yard field goal by Zameer Khan. Kaimuki leads 7-3, 11:13 Q2.

7:57—Pearl City goes three-and-out to open the game. A 21-yard punt sets Kaimuki up at the Chargers’ 40. Jordan Solomon completes a 25-yard pass to Saburban Castillo on fourth-and-17. Solomon finds Tyace Sarcedo-Drennon for 18 yards on fourth-and-16. Ieke Seei-Cleveland scores on a 1-yard run. PAT good. Kaimuki takes a 7-0 lead 5:25 Q1.


7:40—Gov. David Ige and Rep. Gregg Takayama are on hand for the pregame blessing of the field. Pearl City will receive the opening kickoff.

7:05 p.m.—Pearl City wins the JV game 49-12 to open homecoming night. Should be close to an on-time start for the first varsity game on the Chargers’ new field.
