GAME NIGHT 10/13: Kalani/Kalaheo

7:36: Ryan Higashionna intercepts Alana and brings the interception all the way to the Kalaheo 4 with nine seconds left when the Mustangs could have taken a knee and ended it. A scuffle breaks out and the refs call the game. 22-7 is your final.


7:33: Amasiu jumps on a fumble and Kalaheo has the ball back at Kalani’s 43 with 1:15 left. Kalani has one timeout left.

7:29: Kalani forces a quick three-and-out and starts from its own 49 with 2:16 left.

7:24: Jordan Kobashigawa intercepts Kalani backup quarterback Logan Lim from his own 18 and this thing is pretty much over if Kalaheo can run some clock out with 2:37 remaining.

7:18: Kalani forces a turnover on downs on its own 23 and must score now if it wants to rally back, down 22-7 with 4:10 left.

7:10: Missed opportunity for Kalani, who turns it over on downs at the Kalaheo 5 with 10:36 left.

7:04: Kalaheo turns it over on downs and Kalani has the ball at the Mustangs’ 45 with 11:56 left.

FOURTH QUARTER

7:02: End of the third. Kalaheo faces fourth down from its own 44 to start the fourth and leads 22-7.

6:57: Bland second half thus far, as both teams couldn’t get much of anything going after Amasiu’s touchdown. Kalani punts again and Kalaheo starts its next drive from its own 20.

6:35: TOUCHDOWN MUSTANGS. In their first play from scrimmage in the second half, Jaden Amasiu takes a handoff 80 yards to the house, then runs in the two-point conversion. Kalaheo extends its lead to 22-7 with 11:36 left in the third quarter.

6:33: Kalaheo takes the opening kickoff of the second half to its own 20.

THIRD QUARTER

6:15: Kalani can’t even it up before halftime and Kalaheo leads 14-7 at the half. The Mustangs also receive to start the second half.

6:05: Kalani gets it back on its own 25 after a turnover on downs. But on the next play, Noa Lapera takes an interception 31 yards TO THE HOUSE. The Mustangs go for two and don’t convert but they lead 14-7 with 1:52 left in the half.


6:01: Kalaheo gets the ball back at the Kalani 30 after Evan Goad intercepts Sakamoto.

6:00: TOUCHDOWN KALAHEO. Carl Addy takes a handoff 27 yards to the Kalani 1, then punches it in on the next play with 4:18 left in the half. He’s already up to 89 yards on 13 carries. He then takes a handoff for the two-point conversion. Kalaheo takes an 8-7 lead.

5:54: Sakamoto gets picked off by Kekoa Alana, Kalaheo’s quarterback who plays both ways. The Mustangs have it at the Kalaheo 23 with 4:45 left in the first half.

5:52: Kalaheo turns it out downs again and Kalani takes over from its own 15, 5:08 left in the half.

5:40: Both teams have struggled offensively, with Kailua’s field still muddy from yesterday. Although it hasn’t rained on this side today, the residue of Friday night is still affecting both sides.

5:36: Kalani gets the third down stop and looks to add to its lead, starting on its own 15 after the punt.

SECOND QUARTER

5:33: End of the first. Kalaheo faces third-and-8 from the Kalani 49 to start the second quarter trailing 7-0.

5:31: Kalani has its second consecutive three-and-out after scoring the opening touchdown. Kalaheo to start from its own 49 with 1:13 left in the first.

5:28: The Mustangs put a nice drive together but turn it over on downs at the Kalani 20, 2:46 to go in the first.

5:18: After both teams exchange three-and-outs and punts, Kalaheo gets the ball back on its own 20 with 8:08 left in the first.

5:09: Kalani comes out firing and it doesn’t take long for the Falcons to score. Nicholas Sakamoto and Micah Matsuda connect for a 30-yard touchdown on a dime from Sakamoto. Kevin Tabuchi‘s PAT is good and the Kalani lead is 7-0 with 10:47 left in the first.

5:04 p.m.: Kalaheo tries an onside kick to start but the Falcons are on it and recover at midfield.

FIRST QUARTER


5:03 p.m.: Kalaheo wins the toss and elects to defer to the second half. Kalani will receive to begin this game.
