More results coming real soon.

8:23 a.m. It’s Saturday morning, the semifinalists and back side wrestlers are congregating on the mat and the weigh-in is around the corner. Semis don’t start until 10 a.m. Every year, there are a few young student-athletes who miss the weigh-in. I don’t know how that gets taken care of. So I asked Todd Los Banos, former Saint Louis wrestling coach.

He says things are strict, a little more now than before. Once the officials in charge start discussing the procedure with wrestlers on the mat, that’s it. There’s no “grace period,” said Los Banos, who was also the longtime athletic director until a few years back.

If the individual situation was an emergency, Los Banos said, officials may make an exception. But generally, if a wrestler isn’t on time, fuggedaboudit.

Is there anything easy about being a wrestler? At all? Don’t think so.
