Baldwin strong on track

Baldwin’s track and field team had a strong showing at Friday’s Honolulu Marathon Invitational.

Bailey Kaopuiki won the boys 100 (10.97 seconds) and 200-meter dashes (22.10), and ran on the winning 4×100-meter relay team (43.13). Kiernan Leighton Mateo won the boys 300 hurdles (39.71) and Anthony Kahoohanohano-Davis won the long jump (22 feet, 0.75 inches). Kaitlin Smith won the girls long jump (16-9.50).

The meet at Mililani drew competitors from Oahu and the neighbor islands. With the regular season winding down, the meet provided an opportunity for athletes to attain league and state-meet qualifying marks.


Kamehameha, the defending boys state team champion, had two double winners in Kayson Smith-Bejgrowicz (triple jump and high jump) and Kaeo Kruse (1,500 and 3,000). Punahou’s Gordon Kowalkowski won the 800 and ran on the winning 4×400 relay team. Radford’s Izaiah Lavatai won the 400 in 49.92.


Kaiser’s Celine Lum won the pole vault and Teuila Gardner won the high jump. Both ran on
the winning 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams. ‘Iolani’s Lindsey Combs won the 100 and 300 hurdles and Moanalua’s Kathleen Funcheon swept the 100 and 200.


In the throws, ‘Iolani’s Kamuela Borden and Waipahu’s Sabrina Hollins swept the boys and girls discus and shot put events.
