The Kamehameha and Punahou girls soccer teams both won matches on Wednesday to improve to 2-0 on the young season and prepare for Saturday’s showdown.
The defending state champion Warriors host the Buffanblu, the unlucky team left out of states in the ILH last year, on Saturday.
Kamehameha got through a tough test on Wednesday, beating Pac-Five 1-0 on a goal by Sarah Lau. The Wolf Pack have showed a tenacious defense so far, their only other game was a 1-0 loss to Mid-Pacific.
The Buffanblu were not tested by their Division II counterparts, beating the Owls 4-0 on Wednesday to deal Mid-Pacific its first loss. Shay Nakahira drove home two goals and Kaile Halvorson and Kaylyn Fukuji each tallied one.
Two-time defending ILH champion ‘Iolani opened in style, getting two goals from Megan Goo and one each from Kristen Hori and Sam Masca to beat Sacred Hearts 4-0. The Raiders host Mid-Pacific at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Punahou visits Kamehameha at 4 p.m. and St. Francis and Pac-Five tangle at Waipio’s field No. 15 at 3:30.
Punahou has outscored its opponents 11-0 through two games while Kamehameha has a 10-0 margin.
