UPDATE: Punahou 4, Saint Louis 2, F

Sunny, partly cloudy morning at Ala Wai Field. Game started 9:54 a.m., six minutes early.

Hard to beat the view for an ILH baseball playoff game. Double-elimination format in play. Beautiful day for baseball.

1st
Punahou is the visiting team technically, though Ala Wai is its home field. The Buffanlu get three hits, all for extra bases, to take the lead.


Cole Cabrera triples to left, Noah Goss doubles to left center, PUN 1-0. No movement on the fastball of STL starter Chase Meilluer. Yet. Now he’s got action on the heater against Logan Williams, who flies out. But Easton Takamoto reached base on a fielding error by STL shortstop Keith Torres.

Then Andrew Matsueda doubles to left, Takemoto scores from second. PUN 3-0.

PUN pitcher Geoffrey Moore goes 1-2-3 in the bottom of the first.

2nd
Meilleur goes 1-2-3 in the top of the second.

Moore walks Kaiolohia Perreira-Alquiza, DJ Stephens lines into a 9-3 double play as the baserunner left early on a hit-and-run.

3rd
Noah Goss leads off with a single, goes to second on a sac bunt by Williams and reaches third on a passed ball. Takamoto’s sac fly to right scores Williams. PUN 4-0.

Moore struggles a bit in the bottom of the third. John Kea leads off with a single, Hunter Guarco slaps a one-out single and Keith Torres walks on four pitches. Charles Lopez’s sac fly to center brings Kea home from third. PUN 4, STL 1.

4th
Asa Kurasaki leads off for PUN with an infield single but is stranded at second. Meilleur hanging in there.


Perreira-Alquiza walks with one out in the bottom of the frame, but he is stranded.

5th
Takemoto doubles to left with one out and goes to third on a grounder to second by Matsueda. Meilleur then strikes out pinch-hitter Noah Loughlin to end the inning.

1-2-3 in the bottom of the fifth. Moore’s best inning maybe.

6th
Colin Freeman walks with two outs but that’s it for PUN.

STL gets a run. Taylor Meilleur walks with one out and scores on Brendan Uchima’s double to deep right. PUN 4, STL 2.

But Riley Guieb takes the mound and gets Perreira-Alquiza on a fly out and strikes out Stephens to end the inning.

7th
Williams singles with one out but goes nowhere. Meilleur finishing well.


Guieb going strong. Sets STL down 1-2-3, a called third strike on a curve ball against Guarco to end the game.
