ON THIS DATE: Punahou AD James Iams returns from Stanford

Punahou AD James Iams got right back to work after a year at Stanford.

On this date in 1953, Punahou athletic director James Iams returned from a year at Stanford and brought word that the school is high on football prospects Allen Napoleon of Iolani and Punahou’s Donn Carswell.


Iams was Punahou’s sports boss from 1946-75. He died in 1995.

    Completely random, a year pops up and I do the top story. But in 100-plus years, the top prep story figures to be on Punahou a lot of times.

    Punahou was recruiting in Hilo as far back as 1953.
