MAY 9, 1964: Iolani rowers warm up for Olympic Trials

On this day in 1964, the Iolani rowing crew swept all four races of the ILH championship on Ala Wai Canal.

The victory by the heavyweight crew qualified for the Olympic trials in New York. The Raiders lost out in its bid for the 1964 games with a sixth-place finish in a time of 6:55.4. Harvard won the race 25 seconds faster than Iolani. The Raiders qualified for the finals with a time of 6:52.8.

The previous 10 Olympic champions averaged a time of 7:07.
