The Hukilau Cafe 7v7 football team will host a skills clinic and tryouts on Saturday, May 14 at Manana Park in Pearl City.

The team is seeking players in grades 8, 9 and 10. Positions in Pylon 7v7 are QBS, RB, WR, LB, DB.

Cost is $25. Walk-in registration will begin 7:15 am. The event will be 8-10 a.m.

The Hukilau Cafe team will play at the Pylon 7v7 in Las Vegas next March. The team has also been invited to play in the Pylon 7v7 in Dallas, a field limited to the top 24 teams in the nation. Johnson is also planning to start a Pylon 7v7 tourney in Hawaii.

“We’re looking for these dinamonds in the rough, coach Darren Johnson said. “Our guys who are going to be seniors this year can’t play (in 2017). We’re losing seven guys.”

This past March, Hukilau advanced deep into the Las Vegas tourney again.

“We ran out of gas. You have to go full speed on every route. You have to be able to rotate (players),” Johnson said.

Johnson’s staff includes Rod Alama, Robin Kami, Jarrett Kaniho, Keala Santiago and Wes Tufaga. Hukilau Cafe is one of four teams that competes in the Las Vegas tourney.
