APRIL 10, 1999: Nanakuli’s Silas Ah Sui beats Radford’s Jacob Sur

Nanakuli's Silas Ah Sui was drafted by the Cleveland Indians after a standout prep career.

There was plenty of room in Jerome Williams‘ shadow in 1999.

On this day in 1999, Silas Ah Sui of Nanakuli and Radford’s Jacob Sur matched each other strikeout for strikeout in an OIA West clash.

The Golden Hawks beat the Rams 1-0 when Maka Vickers doubled home Ah Sui in the fourth inning.

Ah Sui struck out 14 Rams in seven innings and Sur punched out 12 Golden Hawks. Sur allowed five hits and no walks while Ah Sui allowed three hits and one walk.

Both teams fell short of states behind Aiea, Mililani, Waipahu, Kailua and OIA Champion Pearl City.

Sur ended the season as an OIA all-star at utility while Ah Sui was a second-team pitcher.
