VB: Punahou pulling away

The Punahou girls volleyball team strengthened its grip on the Star-Bulletin’s high school volleyball rankings yesterday, earning all 12 first-place votes from coaches and members of the media.

The Buffanblu beat rival Kamehameha for the third time this season to claim the ILH title and are expected to receive the top seed in the upcoming state tournament. Kamehameha had already clinched a spot.

Farrington moved into the rankings at the expense of Word of Life, but the Firebrands will get a chance to impress voters when it plays Hawaii Baptist in the ILH Division II tournament final on Tuesday. Farrington plays No. 3 Kahuku in the winner’s bracket of the OIA tournament on Tuesday.

Punahou moved up on prepvolleyball.com’s national rankings, riding its win over Kamehameha from 44th to 31st.
