Punahou, ‘Iolani unbeaten at Ann Kang

ILH powers Punahou and Iolani led the charge on the first day of the Ann Kang Invitational at Iolani on Thursday, going through the first day unbeaten.

Neither team dropped a set.

Punahou swept Boswell, Moanalua and Buchanan in pool A to share the lead with Long Beach Poly, which beat Santa Margarita 26-24, 21-25, 15-10. The Mustangs started slow, needing three sets to beat King Kekaulike 25-9, 23-25, 15-12 but recovered to sweep Mid-Pacific.


Punahou and Long Beach Poly open the second day with a match at 8 a.m. on Friday.


‘Iolani swept Mililani and Le Jardin before going three sets in a win over Oak Ridge. Mater Dei matched the hosts with a 3-0 record in pool B, sweeping San Juan Hills, Palos Verdes and Le Jardin.


‘Iolani and Mater Dei are not scheduled to hook up until Saturday at 11 a.m. in one of the last matches before the tournament enters bracket play at 1 p.m.
