All of that work to finish as high as possible in the OIA regular season did nothing for the first round of the league playoffs.
All four first-round games in Division I played Wednesday were won by the lower seeds with sixth-seeded Kapolei out of the West knocking off East third seed Castle and Kalani, which was sixth in the East despite finishing the regular season 7-4, beating Waipahu.

Kaiser needed overtime to get past Leilehua while Nanakuli handled Roosevelt 48-39.
Division II was no different with McKinley and Waialua, which finished a combined 4-17 in the regular season, advancing to the semifinals. Waialua, which went 1-9 against West teams in the regular season, shocked Kalaheo 53-52. The Mustangs went 4-0 against Division II teams in the regular season.
