Would be interesting to see how the #1 seeds were chosen. Konawaena gets the nod as the defending state champs even though Maryknoll has been #1 in the polls. Other than that, I like the seedings on the D-1 side. I’m predicting a final 4 of Hilo, Maryknoll, Kamehameha, Konawaena with Maryknoll winning it all.

In D-2 I think Mid-Pac is correctly the #1 seed, but KS-Hawaii made a strong argument with their BIIF championship throttling of Kohala. And as last year’s runner-up the committee could have used the same logic they used to give Kona the #1 seed. There’s no way Seabury Hall is a better team than Kalani so I’m having a hard time buying them as the #3 seed, but Saint Francis will be thrilled by that 2nd round matchup. And it will be wild to see a rematch of last year’s title game as early as the second round. My D-2 prediction is a final 4 of Saint Francis, Mid-Pacific, Kalani, & HBA with HBA repeating as champs.

I think Maryknoll is the better team. But I can live with Kona being #1. They are the defending champ and went through their league undefeated. I think the loss to KS hurt Maryknoll in the committee’s eyes. My final four is Kona, KS, Lahainaluna, and Maryknoll. I have Maryknoll beating Kona in the finals.

Every year the same old thing. It’s always set up for an all outer island finals match-up. Year after year after year, Maryknoll will have to take on Lahainaluna, before the finals. Kona will play no one and be fresh for the final game.
