VIDEO: Waianae wins JV football title

Waianae’s varsity football team has had plenty of great moments this season, but the program might have had its best while the varsity boys were standing just outside the end zone before their OIA third-place game against Kapolei.

The Seariders took the JV game 22-20 in overtime over Kahuku thanks to a goal-line stand.

Here is the thrilling end game, as described by Billy Hull:

7 p.m.:
Some fun in the JV championship game. Score tied 14-14 and Waianae gets stopped inside the 10 on fourth down but gets the ball back after forcing a punt. With less than a minute to go, the Seariders throw an INT but a penalty wipes out the play. Waianae on the Kahuku 13 with 12.3 seconds to go. Seariders try a field goal and it’s BLOCKED. JV title game going to OT.

7:10 p.m.: Waianae gets the ball first at the 20. Seariders run it three times to get a first down at the 9. Three more runs and it’s fourth-and-goal at the 4. Waianae goes for it. Handoff off left tackle and Waianae punches it in on fourth-and-goal. Seariders score a TD on their first possession of OT. Kahuku is offsides on the extra point and now it looks like Waianae will go for 2. Same play as a the TD and Waianae scores 2 to lead 22-14.

7:15 p.m.: Kahuku gets its shot and Waianae moves early. Kahuku will have first-and-goal at the 4 after an 11-yard run. TOUCHDOWN KAHUKU. Red Raiders must go for 2. Waianae jumps offsides to move it closer and Seariders call timeout. Kahuku goes for it from the 1. STUFFED. Waianae is your 2016 OIA JV champion with a 22-20 win over Kahuku.

That was an awesome game. Both teams gave it everything they had and left everything on the field. Walking out of the game we saw Waianaes #28 being taken to the bus on a cart. Kid could barley walk after the game but during the game he was all over the field. Congratulations on the Championship SeaRiders.
