6:55 p.m.
Picture-perfect weather here at Moanalua. Slight breezes, no ominous clouds. Just clear, crystalline blue sky above and a short wait until Castle and Moanalua begin their varsity game.

The JV game is in the fourth quarter with Moanalua ahead 21-0. Castle has a hearty squad of 25 players.

The varsity game could take some time since both teams love the four-wide passing game. I say it’s a 3-hour, 10-minute contest. After all, Moanalua’s Micah Kaneshiro tossed the ball 62 times last week against Farrington.

8:17 p.m.
JV final: Moanalua 21, Castle 0.

Varsity: Na Menehune are looking to throw, but have scored on 2-yard touchdown runs by Jerek Pavao and Rodson Kealohi for a 13-0 lead. The first TD came with 7:39 to go in the first quarter after the Moanalua defense pinned Castle and the Knights had to punt out of their end zone.

The second TD came with 18.9 seconds left in the quarter. At this point, it doesn’t look like Moanalua will need to throw the ball 62 times like it did last week against Farrington. The gaps up the middle are sufficient for their running game, even though their season-total ratio of pass-to-run plays is more than 6-to-1.

Castle has been smart, eating up nearly every second of the play clock. But the offense is fairly stagnant at this point with the exception of a long sideline pass from Stephen Lee to Joseph Lilio.

8:29 p.m.
Micah Kaneshiro to Donald Lambert on a post route for an 11-yard TD. PAT fake and pass no good (intercepted). 19-0 with 9:42 left in the second quarter.

8:40 p.m.
Castle’s best drive of the night ends with a pick by Moanalua LB Joshua Ramelb. Na Menehune driving without much resistance. Kaneshiro has his team inside the 5 with :57 left in the half.

8:47 p.m.
Kaneshiro to Chad Aragon on a 3-yard touchdown pass. Moanalua 26, Castle 0, :43 left in the half.

8:51 p.m.
Half: Moanalua 26, Castle 0.

9:44 p.m.
Castle gets on the board, a 57-yard bomb from Lee to Kumukoa Oana.

Then Moanalua drives and scores with 5:34 left in the third. Jason Sharsh with a 2-yard run for the touchdown. Moanalua misses another PAT kick, it’s now 32-7, 5:34, third quarter. Castle was assessed personal foul and unsportsmanlike conduct calls at the end of the TD play. Moanalua kicked off from the Castle 30-yard line.

Moanalua just scored again, Lambert picking up a fumble by his teammate and racing in from about 20 yards out. Moanalua 39, Castle 7, 11:24, fourth quarter.

10:58 p.m.
Moanalua is in the midst of senior-night festivities after a 39-14 win. Castle tacked on a late touchdown, an 18-yard pass from Pono Makekau to Chad Figueroa.
