Under Armour All-America Game honored Farrington senior Breiden Fehoko today in a ceremony at the school.
Fehoko, a defensive tackle, was selected to play in the all-star game, which will be played on Jan. 2. The 6-foot-3, 286-pound standout choked up and wiped away tears during his speech.
“I really enjoyed it. Coming from nothing to become something, I’m just thankful I get opportunities to thank my teammates, my coaches, my family,” he said.
Getting invites to big-time all-star games has become the norm for local football standouts.
“V.J. (Fehoko’s brother) got invited to both games and set the bar high. Manti Te‘o, Kennedy Tulimasealii, Isaac Savaiianea — they set the bar high for our class. I think (mainland All-American games) have really taken notice of the talent in Hawaii. Don’t be surprised if they keep inviting our kids in 2016, ’17 and ’18,” Fehoko said.
