Te’o gives Kahuku football team $10,000

Manti Te’o has not forgetten where he came from.

Te‘o, the San Diego Chargers star, presented a check for $10,000 to the Kahuku football team on Saturday.

Manti is a class act,” Kahuku coach Lee Leslie about Te’o’s generous gift. “He is a gentleman and a solid role model.”


Te’o gave $5,000 of his own money and a $5,000 match from the NFL.


A linebacker, Te‘o played his freshman year of high school football at Kahuku before transferring to Punahou, where be became the Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s defensive player of the year as a senior and led the Buffanblu to a state championship.

Te’o went on to star at Notre Dame, and placed second in the Heisman Trophy voting to Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel in 2012.
