It was William Shakespeare’s Hamlet who once uttered the words, “Perchance to dream.”

The Washington State Cougars are certainly doing that. With this morning’s scholarship offer to ‘Iolani junior wide receiver/kicker Keoni-Kordell Makekau, that makes a total of seven offers to Hawaii football players.

The Cougars are dreaming of a 2015-19 era with QB Tua Taagovailoa (Saint Louis) in the pocket, protected by offensive linemen Michael Eletise (Kaiser) and Toleafoa Sean Auwae (Kapolei), handing the ball to RB Vavae Malepeai (Mililani), spiraling passes to Makekau, with Hirkley Latu (Kahuku) at OLB or S, and CB/S Luca Vartic (Konawaena).

(Note: Tagovailoa is only a sophomore.)

Wazzu, of course, is not the lone dog in the chase. Here’s a look at other FBS programs who want to recruit local players this year.

Of course, the home-state team, the University of Hawaii, hasn’t taken a back seat to any competing coaching staff. The Rainbow Warriors have 13 scholarship offers on the table to current juniors (and Tagovailoa, the sophomore), some of it coming after “Junior Day” last Saturday.

Hawaii (13): Malepeai, WR Kalakaua Timoteo (Mililani), Kobayashi, Tagovailoa, QB McKenzie Milton (Mililani), Eletise, Pritchard, Vartic, Auwae, Taulapapa, WR Thomas Reid (Radford), LB Tainoa Foster (Kamehameha), Latu.
