For the second time in as many years, the California Golden Bears have landed one of Hawaii’s top wide receiver prospects.
Saint Louis’ Drew Kobayashi committed to the Golden Bears on Wednesday according to Scout.com.
Kobayashi, listed at 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, follows in the footsteps of Punahou’s Kanawai Noa, Hawaii’s all-time receiving leader, who will be a freshman in the fall.
Kobayashi participated in the Nike Opening event last weekend in Eugene, Ore., and visited California earlier this week before returning home.
Kobayashi chose Cal over offers from Air Force, Army, Hawaii, Navy, Nevada, San Diego State, Washington and Washington State.
Kobayashi appeared in nine of the Crusaders’ 10 games as a junior and hauled in 28 receptions for 664 yards and nine touchdowns.
He’s the third Hawaii high school player to commit to a Pac-12 program recently, joining Saint Louis teammate Jordan Iosefa, who has pledged to USC, and Mililani’s Vavae Malepeai, who says he will head off to Oregon next year.
