Saint Louis star Koali Nishigaya is trying his level best to get noticed, and it has worked as far as USA Today is concerned.
Nishigaya is up for the newspaper’s Super 25 Player of the Week for the second straight week. The award is determined by popular vote, and he can be voted for here.
Nishigaya is currently in fourth place with 687 votes, trailing Ronnell McCorn (Maryland)’s 1,706 votes, Kentucky’s Jack Dingle (906) and AJ Henning of Illinois (740). Voters can select a player as many times as they want, but they may have to refresh their browser after a while.
Nishigaya had 263 receiving yards and two TD’s on just five receptions to help St. Louis beat Mililani 54-21 over the weekend, climbing to third on the program’s single-game receiving chart behind only Desmond Hanohano and Mitchell Quinn.
He finished third in the vote last week with 8,698 fans. Matthew Rueve of St. Xavier (Ohio) won with 30,719 votes.
The winner is awarded a T-shirt and national recognition.
Also, Nishigaya for Polynesian Bowl!
I know this kid is tiny for college ball but I am still surprised that he is not getting any offers at all. This kid can make plays! He will be a steal for any college that takes him. I hope Coach Rolo gives him a chance at UH.
Rolo look at the gloves. He’s obviously a fan. Offer the kid. Maybe more St. Louis kids follow.
A Chad Owens type of player; that should say enough.
He may be small but the kid makes plays and he is strong enough to break tackles as witnessed in the Mililani game. Watch the game tape Rolo, they don’t lie.
He is the REAL DEAL! Excellent work ethic!!!
UH shoulda pushed to take the entire package. Nishi, De Laura, Sykes, and Wilson
Does anybody know where Koali’s brother from Iolani went to college. Kaua I think his name was.
HPW, Billy Hull or Paul Honda, does any of you know where the brother went college?
Size matters but it’ the size of heart/good attitude/skills that that really separates the man from the boys and Nishigawa has all of these gifted attributes. Go boy!
