Radford-Kalani update (final)

11:22 p.m. — The Rams got a rock-solid defensive performance tonight, a lot of bending, no breaking against the Falcons and their dangerous four-wide attack. Radford won 30-0 with a quick, uptempo no-huddle offense — a lot quicker than anything I’d seen all season. Kalani tried to go with a similar tempo, but Radford’s pass rush was brutally effective.

Mana Kikiva, a real beast for Radford’s swarming defense, had three of his team’s six sacks. They hurried Noah Brum into a lot of difficulty. Credit to Radford, which may not be really deep, but has a lot of quality players, and a very good coaching staff, as usual, with Fred Salanoa at the helm. I’m looking forward to seeing them play again.

9:31 p.m. — Radford leads Kalani 10-0 at the half in a sloppy, penalty-infested game. The Rams have been superb defensively for most of the way with five sacks, including two by Mana Kakiva, who has also rushed for the game’s only touchdown. Cayman Conley drilled a field goal in the second quarter.

The teams have combined for roughly 200 yards in penalties on homecoming night. The JV game ran late (heavy with injuries) and the varsity game didn’t start until well after 8 p.m.
