(More on Kamehameha wrestler/judooka Dane Paihi Pestano. The feature story ran in this morning’s edition.)
Dane Pestano abstains from rice, fried food and soda, but treats himself to a bag of Skittles now and then. At the next level, Pestano expects to cut down to 197 or 184 pounds, which sounds severe. In fact, he got up to 238 in the offseason while his shoulder healed. He dropped weight through workouts and a diet that restricts soda, rice and fried food. His cheat snack: Skittles.
“Nah, I can manage it. I still have a lot of fat on me,” said Pestano, who doesn’t envision a shot at the Olympics in 2016. Not yet, anyway.
“Uhh, I don’t know. It depends on how I do in college. I used to really like judo, but now I like wrestling more.”
