On this date in 1993, future McKinley coach Sam Cantiberos scored five touchdowns to lead his Tigers to a 40-12 win over Radford.

Cantiberos, a slotback, earned two of his scores receiving, another two rushing and added a kickoff return for 77 yards.

The senior finished the game with five carries for 75 yards and three catches for 93 yards. By the end of the league season, he paced the OIA Blue with nine touchdowns on 330 yards rushing and 342 yards receiving.

McKinley started its campaign 7-0, winning two more contests after the Radford victory. The powerful offense ground to a halt as the season progressed, however, losing 14-6 at Kaiser despite the only 100-yard rushing performance of Cantiberos’ career and then falling 20-6 to Leilehua to end the season.

Cantiberos was 7-26 on the ground and 3-13 receiving in his last high school game. It was McKinley’s first playoff appearance in more than a decade.
