ON THIS DATE IN 2002: Castle wins rare OIA football crown

On this date in 2002, Castle won its first OIA championship since 1945.

The Knights shut out surprised rival Kailua 25-0 at Aloha Stadium. Castle lost 20-0 in the regular season meeting with the Surfriders.

Jared Suzui
gave Castle all the points they needed on an 82-yard punt return in the second quarter. The defense made it hold up and added on with an interception return for a touchdown by Antone Watanabe and a blocked field goal return by Ikaika Ho. Ethan Gonsalves added a field goal.

Castle attempted only two passes, both of them falling incomplete.

2002 Black Knights…a great team, great players, and good coaches…too bad the Head Coach is no longer at Castle, even though he still teaches there…
