Moanalua senior defensive back Rashod Tanner will play in the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl, according to Sean Ceglinsky, the game’s chief operations officer.
The 5-foot-9 Tanner was part of a Na Menehune team that finished 10-2 and won the OIA Division I championship this fall. Moanalua, however, dropped a 35-9 decision to ‘Iolani in the first round of the D-I state tournament.
The bowl game will be held at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium — the home of the Atlanta Falcons — on Jan. 13. That game is one of four Blue-Grey bowl games. There are two at AT&T Stadium — the home of the Dallas Cowboys — in Arlington, Texas, on Monday (Dec. 16) and Jan. 20. Another one will be held at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium — the home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers — on Jan. 4.
Tanner was recently presented a jersey that he will wear at the game by former NFL player Mark McMillian (Eagles, Saints, Chiefs, 49ers, Redskins from 1992 to ’99) in front of coaches and teammates at Moanalua.
A video slide show of Tanner’s jersey presentation is below.
Tanner won the 100- and 200-meter dashes and the long jump at last spring’s OIA track championship meet.
Congrats to this kid!!
