The top three teams in the state — and four of the top six — will be in action on Friday night at Aloha Stadium in the Division I semifinals of the 2015 First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Football State Championships.

Saint Louis, the No. 2 seed behind Kahuku, remains on top of the latest Honolulu Star-Advertiser Top-10 rankings released Monday night with the Red Raiders sitting in second.

After walloping Hilo, 62-18, in last week’s first round with their quarterback, McKenzie Milton, playing for the first time after missing four games, the Mililani Trojans jumped Punahou for third in the poll with the Buffanblu fourth.

Two of the 14 voters in the poll gave the Trojans a first-place vote despite Mililani losing two games this year, including one with Milton fully healthy. Kahuku, which beat Mililani and is undefeated at 11-0, received four first-place votes while the Crusaders were ranked first on eight ballots.

Waianae, which faces Kahuku in Friday’s first semifinal, remained at No. 6 in the poll, trailing Kamehameha, which was fifth.

Farrington and Kapaa followed at No. 7 and No. 8 while OIA D-II champion Radford leapfrogged Baldwin into ninth. The Bears remained in the top 10 at No. 10 after falling, 21-6, to Waianae last Friday.

Kapaa hosts Lahainaluna at Vidinha Stadium on Saturday afternoon while Radford plays BIIF champion Konawaena, which beat ILH D-II champion Damien 42-33, on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Roosevelt.

Mililani, the defending state champion, was the toughest team to vote on according to the ballots. While Kyle Galdeira and Nck Abramo put them at No. 1, seven others had the Trojans ranked fourth. The other five voters all placed Mililani third.

Punahou was ranked third on five ballots and fourth on seven ballots, but also received two separate second-place votes behind Saint Louis.

Kahuku had four different voters placing it third, which is the lowest it appeared on any single ballot.

You cannot vote Punahou ahead of Waianae, Waianae is already tied for 3rd in the state due to the state tournament which Punahou is not participating in. Does not matter that Punahou would arguably beat Waianae if they played. Punahou will not play Waianae and the state tournament should decide the final rankings. Teams that don’t make the state tournament can be ranked via opinions.

  2. surfdad November 9, 2015 4:15 pm

I guess I should have said Punahou and Kamehameha should not be ahead of Waianae

  3. rrforlifebaby November 9, 2015 4:21 pm

At this point, who cares about this weeks rankings? It doesn’t affect the state seedings. As far as I’m concerned, it’s really about the voters egos and personal preferences. Should Kahuku lose this weekend(which I seriously doubt), or not have a dominating performance against Waianae, or lose next weekend, it’ll just give the doubters ammunition for them to say ,:see, I told you guys” Kahuku wasn’t all that.

  4. 88 November 9, 2015 4:40 pm

4 voters had kahuku 3rd? I guess wins and championships don’t mean nothing to those 4. I wouldnt be surprised if Kahuku wins the State Title and is ranked 2nd behind the loser of the game at the end of the year. Even funnier, they lose the Championship and end up ranked 4th.

  5. Manley November 9, 2015 5:53 pm

I have a feeling that the two voters that gave Mililani (10-2) a first place vote, also put Kahuku (11-0) at the the third spot. No problem, it will all play out next week. St.Louis will beat Mililani. The difference is the defense.

  6. SimpleSimon November 9, 2015 6:25 pm

I really want St Louis to win because Kahuku already beat Mililani, but Kahuku really needs to play Mililani and SMASH THEM with Milton so those so-called experts can shut up about their rankings!!!

  7. Good Story November 9, 2015 7:25 pm

As much as I would love to see our boys play St. Louis, for me, I’m rooting for Mililani this week to give us the first ever all OIA State Championship Finals. This should silence all the ILH Elitists who seem to think they are so much better than the OIA. Then I would love to see a rematch with a healthy Mckenzie. There will definitely still be excuses, but I truly believe our boys can do it and Leave No Doubt who the Best in the State is.

  8. Elitist November 9, 2015 8:34 pm

Why don’t you take the graduating class from 15 years ago from Kahuku (c/o 2000). Then take the same graduating class 15 year ago from Iolani, Punahou, or Mid Pacific. Then take the average yearly salaries for each graduating class and compare. Let’s see which are higher. Personally that would impress me much more than a $65 state trophy made from the Trophy House.

  9. Kahuku 82 November 9, 2015 8:43 pm

    @ Good Story

That’s the Goodest story ever! Good luck to everyone Friday…….

    Go Big Red!!!!

  10. Paper Crane November 10, 2015 1:56 am

@Simple Simon,..you right about Kahuku smashing Mililani like Milton’s shoulder is a target for the Raiders defense;…after they get down with him he’ll be unable to sign with either hands like the college of his choice;….just watch and see like the war dance started two weeks ago and they going to paint the Aloha Stadium Red come Friday the 13th scalpathon mania for Kahuku.
You guys enjoy and god bless you and yours,..you too GOOD STORY.

  11. fan of sports November 10, 2015 7:26 am

@Paper Crane You (and thus, your community) have reached a new low calling out for an injury to a specific player. Shame that you sit behind a computer and spew ill will like that.
None of these players are responsible for the polls and no student athlete deserves your comments.

  12. Lee Boy November 10, 2015 7:42 am

Really classy going after a player injury. This is just appaling, this guy should be banned from making comments. Wow!!!!! unreal to say the least

  13. Kahuku 82 November 10, 2015 7:47 am

    @ fan of sports

Why you take one persons opinion and blame the community as a whole??? Totally agree with you that comments like that is uncalled for and has no place in high school sports or any other level.. It’s his own opinion and his only, he’s not the spokesman for our community..

    Aloha, have a good day

  14. Kahuku 82 November 10, 2015 7:52 am

Something definitely wrong wiff his Abdullah ob longaddah

  15. fan of sports November 10, 2015 8:08 am

@Kahuku82 Everyone represents their community when they ‘speak’ on these boards whether they are the voice of one or all. There are family and friends of all players of all schools that read and do not post, but word gets around how people are around here.

  16. NoCry November 10, 2015 8:53 am

Kahuku fans – it’s the same story from last week and the week before, and the week before…No cry about the rankings – you seems to be the only ones offended by the rankings and it makes you look like babies!!! Let it be and let the players play!!!

  17. NoCry November 10, 2015 8:57 am

Another thing – no make bullseye on specific players – that’s no class!!! Pride yeah but no class = Zero!!!!! If you can’t take it – get the hell off the forum!!! Tough guy behind the computer screen…

  18. jason Keuma November 10, 2015 9:43 am

I hope for good games, where no gets hurt, so they can play future games. I also hope that people would use their real names when they make comments on these boards, they always have a more polite tone. Matuu P, and Tanoai R, come to mind as good examples of positive comments while using their real names. There is no doubt who they are cheering for, but they have done while not being demeaning towards the other teams.
I enjoy reading all the comments, but I don’t believe they would be written the same way if their real names were attached to them. On that note
These polls do not mean a thing. It gives them something to fill their columns with. They are based on opinion from what they remember of the games that they saw. Last week reconfirmed that between the best offense and the best defense, Defense will win out. Look at the numbers. Mililani did not come close to their average points scored, but Kahuku came real close to their points allowed. Even with the Trojans back up quarterback, they scored 60,48,and 45 in their previous three games. They scored 29,35,and 21 in their first quarters. Against Kahuku’s defense, they scored 0 in the first quarter, with the same QB. This why they play the game on the field and not in the polls.
To the two voters that put Milliani at first. Really? If situations were reversed and Kahuku lost to Mililani in the OIA championship game, and Kahuku came back and beat Hilo, would you put Kahuku in front of Mililani? I dont think so. I hope Mililiani wins against St Louis, so that their will be a rematch of the best offense(with their best QB) verses the best defense. If I were a betting man, I would bet on the best defense on the field.
To the two commentators on OC16, calling Kahuku’s schedule weaker compared to Mililani’s made me laugh. They played several of the same opponents, with the same results, wins. Its just the “weak” teams scored on Mililani’s defense much more than they did on Kahuku’s defense, if they did at all.
As much as it sucks to see the same teams playing against each other, it is harder to beat the same team twice. I would like to see Kahuku play the #1 ranked team in Hawaii, but on the same token, I would like Mililani to beat St Louis to show the pollsters how wrong they have been.
Friday cant come here soon enough. I hope for good games and everyone being safe, and for the team I am rooting for to win.

  19. 88 November 10, 2015 9:46 am

PaperCrane was just Identifying a weakness on Mililani’s team. The opposing coaches know this and so do the players. If you people dont think that opposing defense’s will not try to exploit this weakness and take the qb out of the game you guys are nuts. Kahukus qb/rb has a bumb ankle. You dont think kids were going after his legs? The spot light shouldnt be on PaperCrane, the spot light should be on the Mililani FANS WHO STAYED THE WHOLE GAME WHEN IT WAS A BLOWOUT INSTEAD OF LEAVING EARLY LIKE THEY DID LAST WEEK DURING A LOSS. Now that speaks more about a community than an individuals post on this forum.

  20. Paper Crane November 10, 2015 10:30 am

@88,…Mahalo and like that’s what it’s all about when it’s the semi final like the smash mouth jargons and semantics gets bloodier like just being honest with either side game plan and the same here when anyone goes down thank god they stand and walk healthy;..maybe I should use softer and more sweeter words like that comes with the sweet tears victory during the drive home.

  21. fan of sports November 10, 2015 10:51 am

I think everyone knows the weaknesses of the teams and no doubt teams will be trying to expose those weaknesses during a game. What I don’t understand is wishing hurt on a particular player. And comments like this “after they get down with him he’ll be unable to sign with either hands like the college of his choice” are completely unnecessary.

This place can be brutal (and funny) and most of what is said has to be taken with a grain of salt. No one is asking anyone to be sweet, but I do hope we can all be mature enough not to take direct hits at student athletes.

  22. Trojans8o8 November 10, 2015 10:52 am

    Thank you @fanofsports. WELL said.

  23. Manley November 10, 2015 11:25 am

Anybody know if the championship game will be on OC16 or is it a pay per view?

  24. Lee Boy November 10, 2015 11:33 am

    39.99 on pay per view

  25. realistic November 10, 2015 11:59 am

That’s a good deal. Super Cheap!

  26. GoBigRed November 10, 2015 12:22 pm

    $40???? Lol.

Rankings Shmankings. Created by people who don’t play so they can feel better about themselves. At this point utterly useless.

    Excited for this weekend.

    Go Big Red.

  27. rrforlfiebaby November 10, 2015 12:48 pm

@ Elitist…ok, nothing to do with the article, but, ok.
@ Paper Crane, ‘cmon now, these are high school kids we’re talking about. If you said what you said about pro players, I wouldn’t have too many issues.

  28. EwaEwa November 10, 2015 1:31 pm

Can anyone confirm that if Mililani ends up losing the game against St. Loius that their fans will stay til the end? Because against Kahuku half of them got up and left in the 4th quarter.

Yet the very next week when they win a meaning less game against the #15 team in the state (Hilo) they all stayed til the end.

  29. GoBigRed November 10, 2015 1:35 pm

    $10 live stream online

  30. GoBigRed November 10, 2015 1:39 pm

@EwaEwa. They had to leave early to shred their 500 “2015 OIA CHAMPIONS” T-shirts. Took 500 of their fans to get it done. 😀 😀 😀

  31. realistic November 10, 2015 1:43 pm

    $39.99 is practically free.

  32. Homegrown November 10, 2015 1:44 pm

I’m a Kahuku fan and just wanted to point out we still have to face a hungry Waianae squad. ANYTHING can happen in the playoffs, don’t over look the boys from the Westside. Oh and who cares about the rankings.

  33. GoBigRed November 10, 2015 1:48 pm

If I was home I’d be going to da stadium anyway. But why would anyone pay $40 PPV when you can get the same broadcast for $10 online? And just stream from laptop to TV? Makes no sense.

  34. 88 November 10, 2015 1:49 pm

Did TrojanNation really make “2015 OIA Champs” t-shirts?

  35. Good Story November 10, 2015 2:52 pm

    @fan of sports
Only conceited folks like you think they represent someone other them self. We are all here to speak our own minds and express our own opinions.
    @Paper Crane
Mahalo my friend, you keep being yourself. All these newcomers wanna come in and talk like they know. But they don’t.

  36. GoBigRed November 10, 2015 4:06 pm

    @88. Yup

  37. Paper Crane November 10, 2015 4:11 pm

On his behalf Milton;..eh like you already got scholarships lined up regardless of one or two more games and like elevating your stats is not going to change them schools of intent yet getting reinjured is only unannounced but probable; if you sit them games out and stay healthy like you’ll be playing for many many more years and like preserve yourself for the next level like they got better coaching that will wow you and smart you;..so bottom line is don’t coverup your pain if are even experiencing just some cause Coach York can’t see into your hurt/pain and even your Ohana so being honest today will make you play again another day;..that’s being reality smart and you have already proven yourself;..good luck this Friday..

  38. Paper Crane November 10, 2015 4:28 pm

Even Coach York is trying to protect Milton from further reinjuries whereas noticing he’ll always ask his star QB if he’s OK everytime they turn over the ball or score a touch down; another stipulations is there’s always backup QB’s a plenty for Mililani so can Milton be replace,..I believe so and for even next year too;..enjoy kay..

  39. Realistic November 10, 2015 4:31 pm

Many reasons. Someone may not have a device to stream to their tv. Their download speeds maybe less than 20mbps.

I have a 87 inch Curved Samsung and I like to see shows on a large TV. All I have to do is press 1 button on the remote and the PPV goes on. It’s that easy and $40 is like skipping lunch, not a big deal. $10, $20, $30, $40, $50, thats the same tier for money in my opinion.

GOBIGRED, how do you suggest we do it? Watch online on a small computer monitor? Stream through a Firestick? Appletv? Google Chromecast? Dragon Box? Etc?

  40. EwaEwa November 10, 2015 5:23 pm

    Paper crane

Mililani been saying they have capable QB’s ready to step in and that proved true when their backup QB’s continued to smash Moanalua, Farrington, Waianae and Kailua…BUT when they faced a Killer Defense and lost to Kahuku they made the excuse that Milton was not playing. York even went on record saying “We had no QB”. Yet those same backup QB’s were smashing every one in the TOUGH OIA blue division and no one was complaining then.

Also it is not up to any coach to determine the health of Milton, after being cleared by the doctor it is his parents and Milton himself to determine his availability. You cant step on the field hoping not to re-injure, you either play or you dont play, and if you get hurt oh well its part of the game and all of the other 21 players are taking the same risks. The coach can kind of scheme and call plays that help to avoid certain scenarios but what it comes down to is – If you are afraid of getting hurt then you should not be in the game.

  41. Paper Crane November 10, 2015 5:25 pm

    @fan of sports especially for you like turn up your common sense and imagination frequencies to what the many jargons and semantic like them could have more different ways to say but meaning the same;

like “unable to sign with either hands” means if you get reinjured and it causes a medical compromise to your future football career like you won’t be hand signing either like again another way of saying it whereas hands not required like it’s all over;…seriously like significant signature signing can be legally sign with either hand of the individual ‘s choice and no write of mine wished unhealthy injuries for any athlete like those who say that sure got no reading class/comprehension that’s for sure;..eh Thimk?.

  42. Paper Crane November 10, 2015 5:41 pm

@EwaEwa,,, eh like it’s the same like it parallels with my comment yet you just brought on professional medical play or no play and I never said it was Coach York’s decision but I did point out that Coach York was concerned about reinjuries;…now doesn’t that repeat what I been saying all along;..he,..he, between Rweed and Thimk there must be a disconnect;..RR4L/63er

  43. USMC November 10, 2015 5:50 pm

@Realistic … I’ve only commented once on these blogs over the past several months. I understand people are very passionate about their teams and their community and I usually either end up shaking my head in humor or shaking my head in disbelief. I’m glad you have done well for yourself, have a quality education, and assumable living very comfortably with an 87″ Curved Samsung and thinking $10 is no different than $50, so $40 is like skipping lunch. But, don’t you think that for a majority of individuals $40 is perhaps more than what they might spend on a meal and might want other, more thrifty options? Commenting about others education or innuendos about what one can afford just seems below the belt. Again it seems you have been very fortunate, be it through hard work or opportunities, maybe both, but just keep in mind that when the boys walk onto the field, education opportunities or family income won’t be part of the equation. Best of luck all the teams still left in the hunt.

  44. GoBigRed November 10, 2015 5:52 pm

My laptop has HDMI. Simple solutions are usually the best.

Ding ding you win with your “curved TV” and $40 is “practically free” and blah blah blah. Doooooont explain yo lyf. LOL.

And people whining about possible targeting of Milton. Simple rule of thumb: if he’s playing then he’s healthy. If he’s not healthy then why is he playing??? That’s on him, his parents and his coach. When he’s on the field he knows the possibilities. Just like Kahuku’s O lineman know the possibilities of getting chop blocked by Babogum defensive lineman. Don’t play if you’re afraid of getting injured. It ain’t ballet.

  45. 88 November 10, 2015 6:40 pm

One thing you need to remember about REALSTIC is that she is a lot of different people. A lot of people equals a lot of $income$. Thus the 87′ curved samsung. Curved just like her head.

  46. Paper Crane November 10, 2015 6:41 pm

@USMC,..semper fi and enjoy your place of Veterans Holiday like yours truly from an old schooler/Vietnam Era.

Yep it’s all about “no pain no gain” yet aging will many a times flashback them battle pains like for this post it’s sports injuries and like any sports medicine specialist will advise you that old sports injuries will reappear and haunt you starting as early as early 40’s up to late 60’s this speaking from my old injuries;..so the new school like “no brain more pain” like wondering which pays more?

  47. Paper Crane November 10, 2015 7:35 pm

For before or after your supper like what’s been my comment about Coach’s Mork concern about (Video) QB McKenzie Milton like the 2nd below photo speaks for itself like checkout the captured non verbal by both McKenzie and Coach Mork whereas I’m more then sure that Coach Mork had just asked him how’s your shoulder and McKenzie is rotating his arm and saying it’s OK,..bet you…..interesting how a photo can speak reality;…enjoy and good nite kay.

  48. Menehune November 10, 2015 7:45 pm

I can’t believe that Kahuku fan wants to see Milton get hurt…Unbelievable no class…

  49. Paper Crane November 10, 2015 8:14 pm

@Menehune,….he,…he, you funny like the photo didn’t want that; by the way are you a Laie Clissold Beach Menehune maybe not cause them come out after midnite and they can pick up and move a house;…niow that’s unbelievable class act like Obake Story.
