Thompson-Robinson with a 28-yard pass to Braden Lenzy, but is sacked by Jonah Kahahwai-Welch on the next play. LB Chad Bailey finishes this one off with a scoop of a fumble and a score. NO. Illegal defense called on Makai. Wipe away a 63-yard fumble return TD for Bailey. Thompson-Robinson runs to the 5 and we’re done. FINAL.

Leary back in the game at QB for Makai and he hits Ruckert for 19 yards to the 45. Game has definitely opened up. Ruckert with another big catch of 22 yards to the 13. He’s a good looking player. Nawahine on the toss goes full speed but is dropped at the 2. Enough to move the chains, however. You know he wanted six. Taua with his second TD run on a 2-yard carry as he jumpcuts to elude a defender and is in. Touchdown Makai. 31-14.

Bishop Gorman’s Dorian Thompson-Robinson in the game at QB and he throws a high ball for Tuni Fifita that goes for 30 yards. Thompson-Robinson with some moves in the backfield to pick up the first down. Thompson-Robinson finds Waianae’s Rico Rosario for 18 yards to the 1 and Brian Snead runs it in for the TD. 24-14, 7:24, Q4. Replays show Rosario probably scored.

Fourth quarter begins with Makai third-and-goal at the 1. Toa Taua, who just committed to Nevada, scores on the 1-yard TD run. 24-7 Makai.

Ewing remains in the game at QB and he’s able to scramble for 8 yards on third-and-4 for a first down. Jevon Holland steps in front of a Ewing pass and picks it off and Mauka is in business again. BUT NO. Instant replay overrules the call. Ewing back out there and he completes a pass to move the chains. Ewing scrambles to his left and makes a NICE throw 29 yards to Mustapha Muhammad to the 12.

****Lompoc (Calif.) RB Toa Taua commits to Nevada.

Short punt and Paul Moala grabs it on the bounce and is gone. 57-yard punt return and Mauka is on the board. Moala isn’t even the return guy. Ball bounced right at him so he took it and was gone. 17-7, 6:38, Q3.

Konawaena‘s Austin Ewing in the game at QB. Three-and-out.

Mauka gets the ball to start the second half. Brevin White at QB and he hits Saint Louis receiver Jonah Panoke for 6 yards on his first throw. Impressive catch by Michael Wilson on third down to move the chains. Kamehameha’s Kalamaku Kuewa, who intercepted a pass in all but two games this year for the Warriors, gets a pick in the Polynesian Bowl.

Tanner McKee in at QB for Team Makai and he completes his first pass and then scrambles for 3 yards on third-and-2. Lots of stoppages here on this drive. Now another timeout. Solomon Enis dances for 6 yards on a screen and it’s third-and-4 at the 47. Nice throw from McKee to Blue Smith, the Ohio State commit, to move the chains. Best run of the day for a RB is 10 yards for Toa Taua, who will announce his commitment later this evening. Makai establishing the run game now as Nawahine takes it outside for a 10-yard gain and a first down. Kahuku’s Samson Reed, the Virginia signee, is one of three Team Mauka players to tag team a sack on McKee. McKee to Blue Smith for a 19-yard TD as the defensive back tries to go for a pick and doesn’t get it. Just your typical TD pass from a 6-foot-6 quarterback to a 6-foot-6 receiver. Team Makai 10, Team Mauka 0, :44, Q2.

Mauka first-and-10 at the 44 to start second quarter. Cordeiro completes four in a row before he has a pass that should have been picked off. Looked like the receiver stopped his route early. Easy pick is dropped by Talanoa Hufanga. Cordeiro scrambles for 12 yards and a first down at the 19. Cordeiro has a couple of people whistling in the press box at the crispness on his throws. Third-and-11 at the 21. Physical coverage on the throw to the end zone and Mauka will settle for a field-goal try. Jonah Lipel with a 37-yard field goal and it’s wide left.

Mauka will begin its second drive from the 26-yard line after a 25-yard return by Bryan Addison, a UCLA commit.

**A little more on Aaron Faumui, who had the TFL. Two coaches singled him out this week as a guy they didn’t know much about but learned quickly. He did some good things this week.

Leary remains in at QB and it’s fourth-and-1 at the 42 of Makua. Nawahine gets 2 and a first down. The Kahuku RB has really impressed in practice this week. Third-and-3 and Leary finds another big tight end, Mustapha Muhammad, for the first down. Kapolei DL blows through to tackle Nawahine for a loss to set up third-and-4. Leary’s first incomplete pass sets up a 37-yard field goal attempt by BT Potter and it’s GOOD. 3-0 Makai, 3:14, Q1.

Team Makai defensive back Kyler Gordon forced a fumble by Team Mauka tight end Tuni Fifita on the first offensive play from scrimmage for Team Mauka. Photo by Jay Metzger/Special to the Star-Advertiser.
