After knocking off previously-ranked Kaiser to open the 2015 high school football season, the Kapolei Hurricanes made quite the jump into the Honolulu Star-Advertiser Top 10 Media Poll released Monday.

Kapolei, which showed a new look on offense, put up an impressive seven touchdowns in a 49-28 win over the Cougars. The victory forced voters to include Kapolei in this week’s top 10, putting them seventh ahead of ‘Iolani, Kapaa and Campbell.

Mililani remained No. 1 with an impressive showing in a scrimmage against No. 2 Saint Louis on Saturday and came closer to holding the top spot unanimously. After receiving 10 of 14 first-place votes in the preseason, the Trojans collected all but one first-place vote this week, ranking second on the other ballot.

The top six teams all remained the same with the Crusaders holding firm at No. 2, followed by Punahou, Kahuku, Kamehameha and Farrington.

‘Iolani jumped two spots to No. 8 after throttling Kamehameha-Maui, 48-14, and Kapaa debuted at No. 9 after an impressive 20-2 win over defending OIA Division-II champion Nanakuli.

Campbell fell to No. 10 after getting hammered, 50-0, by Kahuku, but finished one vote ahead of Hilo, which plays at No. 3 Punahou on Saturday.

St. Louis at No. 2 is ridiculous. Kahuku would absolutely throttle St. Louis as St. Louis defense looks weak and discombobulated. Even their defensive line looks weak though built physically they look like they lack the stamina to hold their ground where as Kahuku’s offense and defense would literally run over St. Louis incl. St. Louis’s QB.
I would think Punahou is a solid No. 3 but definitely Kahuku is not only physical but they are fast and quick as well and will prove it as the season progresses.
