Kamehameha in fourth week atop Football Top 10

Kamehameha defensive lineman Luke Kaleiwahea (8) puts pressure on Saint Louis quarterback AJ Bianco (5) during the fourth quarter of an ILH football game on Friday, Oct. 15, 2021, at Aloha Stadium. Kamehameha came from behind to win 34-31. Jamm Aquino/jaquino@staradvertiser.com.

Kamehameha’s clutch gene is alive and well.

Coaches and media granted the Warriors 10 of 12 possible first-place votes in today’s Star-Advertiser Football Top 10. That makes it four weeks in a row with Kamehameha a No. 1 ranking, including the last three as an outright top-ranked team.

Kamehameha rallied past Saint Louis, 34-31, on Friday to seal the top seed in the ILH Open Division playoffs.

Kahuku won handily at Kapolei, 41-7, and rose from No. 4 to a share of No. 2 with Saint Louis.

Mililani overwhelmed Waianae, 49-6, yet dropped a notch to No. 4.

Kapolei remained in the Top 10, while Lahainaluna moved up to No. 9. The Lunas host Maui this weekend in their MIL opener.

Hilo, which was in the Top 10 earlier this fall, will meet Konawaena this weekend in a big D-I showdown on the Big Island. Konawaena has been heavily impacted by the postponement of fall sports, losing five players who transferred. Most were two-way starters.

No. 2 Saint Louis and No. 5 Punahou meet on Friday in an elimination battle. The winner will meet Kamehameha for the ILH crown next week.

I would say, 1: Kamehameha 2: Saint Louis 3: Mililani/Kahuku 5:Punahou, the top 5. The winner of the Saint Louis/Punahou game faces Kamehameha on Oct. 29, a Kamehameha victory would give them the ILH Title, a Kamehameha lost would decide the Title on Nov. 5.

I would agree with you 100 percent, because we can’t judge Kahuku/Mililani on just one game.. It’s going to be a good one between the ILH teams this year.. It will be fun to watch.. Good luck

I would think that the pollsters viewed Kahukus and came away impressed. Didnt look like first game cobwebs especially after a 2 year hiatus. Also did not play against second string Kapolei.
So the poll looks spot on.

  4. 88 October 19, 2021 7:03 pm

They didn’t scrimmage against Kamehamehas 2nd string either.

Bartley 2 games rushing total against StL. was 230 yds???? Imagine if a rushing team like Kahuku played them? Well maybe in 2022. Go KAM.
