Update 10:14 p.m. What a finish! Kahuku wins in double overtime, 13-10. The Mules had a chance to win in the first overtime, but Tim Momiyama’s 42-yard field-goal try was wide right.
He nailed a 37-yarder in the second overtime, but Kahuku drove and won it on a 3-yard leap over the goal line by Aofaga Wily.
Great game, two great teams, pure class. Makes me proud to be a Hawaii high school football fan.
Update 9:11 p.m. We’re going to overtime.
Update 8:55 p.m. Kenan Sadanaga’s 7-yard bullet to Mikhal Peyton has tied the game at 7-all with 5:37 remaining.
Update 8:39 p.m. Mahonilai Fakatau’s 1-yard run has ended the scoreless drought, giving Kahuku a 7-0 lead with 11:55 to go in the game.
Update 8:24 p.m. 20-yard field goal try by Kahuku’s Kekahu Aluli hits the right upright and misses. Game still tied with 6:33 to go in the third quarter. Craaaazy.
7:56 p.m. If you haven’t seen the first half, you haven’t missed a whole lot. Game is tied at 0. Kahuku’s drive late in the half ended with a fourth-and-11 overthrow by Lasi Livai that was picked off by Russell Siavii with 34 seconds left.
7:17 p.m. Both teams have punted once, 6:08 left, Leilehua ball on its 20-yard line. Mules came out in a funky power-I set, similar to what Punahou runs out of the pistol. Didn’t work.
