Kahuku citizens pumped about Gorman game

This is not your ordinary Hawaii high school team going off island for a football game on the mainland.

This is the Kahuku Red Raiders going to Las Vegas. To the team itself, it’s another game, to be taken as serious as any other game. This ain’t no foolin’ around.

For the citizens of the North Shore hamlet we call Kahuku, this is a carvival-like thing. Hawaii Prep World reported a few weeks ago that 2,000 tickets, the Red Raiders’ allotment for the game on Saturday against Bishop Gorman, were sold in an hour. Turns out that on the Kahuku High website, it shows those tickets were actually gone in 45 minutes.

The Red Raiders revelers were out en masse Tuesday doing the Red Mile, according to Kela Miller, a fan and an organizer with a Kahuku alumni group who flew to Las Vegas on Tuesday.

Earlier Tuesday, when she was heading to the airport, Miller said she saw people gathered outside to line Kamehameha Highway in Kahuku holding signs and tooting horns and yelling, “Go Big Red.”

She said Pop Warner teams, Big Boyz football teams and lots of elementary school students and other proud members of the community showed their support.

“It was really touching to see the community get out there, all the way from Kahuku to Hauula,” Miller said.

According to Miller, Red Raiders alumni from as far away as Germany, Japan and Kuwait are in Las Vegas for the game on Saturday, when No. 17 Kahuku (USA Today Super 25) and No. 1 Bishop Gorman play. Kickoff is 7 p.m. Pacific time and 4 p.m. Hawaii time.

“I have people calling me and asking me if I have any more tickets,” Miller said. “I have to tell people that I’m sorry I don’t.”

The Red Raiders (5-0, 5-0 OIA Blue) fly out of Honolulu International Airport at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. They will be staying at the Suncoast Hotel.

On Thursday, a rally is being planned by two Kahuku alumni groups (based on Oahu and Las Vegas) at 5 p.m. at the Fremont Street Experience.

Anybody who wants more information about the rally, can email kahukualumnilv@gmail.com or call one of three phone numbers — 702-503-0455, 702-972-9190, 702-972-9201.

According to the Bishop Gorman website, adult tickets for the game at its Fertitta Field on campus are sold out and that student tickets will be available.

The Gaels (3-0) have wins over Cedar Hill (Texas), Cocoa (Fla.) and St. John Bosco (Bellflower Calif.).

other then the 2000 tickets alloted to Kahuku High School from BG there was a BG booster in vegas that bought all the rest of the adult tickets from BG so that Kahuku and Hawaii fans in vegas dont get a chance to buy and possibly overwhelm their home crowd. Last week a gentleman that wore red in support of kahuku got denied at the BG ticket counter. Only student tickets are available.

  2. Manley September 13, 2016 7:29 pm

Seen the Kahuku Booth at the Henderson Convention Center last saturday. Tshirt and caps were going like Oline pancakes. Don’t know if BG crowd is ready for a Sea of Red. Even the “local: BG players got tickets for relatives from Kahuku. Haka on the Fremont.

For all you RR4L, please view the tape between the recent St John Bosco vs Bishop Gorman whereas I have and I’m saying our Big Red Varsity can sure pull off an upset over penalty prone BG like they got nothing even close to smash mouth katoosh or even anything over and beyond our varsity men; the probability to take them out is for sure overwhelming and that’s why Kahuku Red Raiders are still Hawaii’s Number #1 High School Football State Champions; just intense this wait until game day; again please view the tape you’ll get to witness the big picture or the rest of the story why we can pull an upset. Enjoy the wait OK, RR4L

  9. Toomeke September 14, 2016 5:49 am

Bishop Gorman parents attending same Volleyball tournament in vegas as Kam and Kahuku girls complained that even they don’t have tickets to the game and they have a son playing on the team. Said booster bought them all.

  10. Education First September 14, 2016 7:56 am

Smart Business. No wonder that gentleman can afford to buy that many tickets.

It’s too bag that the Kahuku comunity does not get this excited when SBAC Testing is about to begin. But then again, it’s kind of hard to get excited when you know your kid will probably score near the bottom of the state.

  11. Education First September 14, 2016 8:12 am

So much chirping but I am confident none of these RR4L people are rushing over to put money on their infamous team.

  13. TooMeke September 14, 2016 8:20 am

I know you’re know the true EducationFirst because you’re chirping about non-educational topics. And your posts are too short (must be your two-fingered typing technique). The real EF’s posts are virtual novels.

Additionally, your writing skills are piss-poor. Poor grammar, structure, syntax, word choice, etc, including wrong word(s). The real EF’s writing skills are at least HS 12th grade level (barely).

    HA!!!!!

I’m heading to Vegas…because I can! How about you? Oops…

    RRFL!!!

  14. RR4L September 14, 2016 8:32 am

    Dear Education First:
The Kahuku football boys are required to have a 3.0 GPA in order to play. While tests are important, a rally, a celebration following a testing should not be encouraged…studies show that brain gym exercises, relaxation before a tests helps focus and concentration. And if you are implying that their test scores are low because majority of them are Polynesian then I suggest you refrain from those kinds of judgements….GO BIG RED!

  15. 808Sams September 14, 2016 8:37 am

    To The Nation of Red

Do the 808 proud as you ALWAYS do week in and week out. BG is a big mountain to climb, but definitely NOT impossible to conquer. The Aloha State is being represented well by The Red Raider Nation and we are definitely behind and rooting for you. Aloha!!!

HAHAHA! HAHAH! That is so original! @Education First (Grader)! That is the best. Did you see what P.C. did? He put the word “grader” in parenthesis to make a play on words to insinuate that I have the education of a first grader.

Well that could be true. But if that is the case then P.C., his alter ego 88, his mahu cousin 87, and the rest of the poverty-living Kahukuans would be about age 1?

HAHA, that is so amazing! How do you do it!

No they are pretty close. And yes they are above Blanche Pope but really? You argument is Dole Middle is lower? I am sorry, let me clear this up. When I say bottom, I am talking bottom tier.

After all, do you really think it’s an accomplishment being the 2nd worst high school on Oahu? They are bad!

And you are a 10 year old? Wow! Your writing is actually better than 99% of the Kahuku Community. Let me guess, you actually pay attention in class and do your work?

    What is with your behavior?
Your unprovoked insults are annoying and childish…
You took time out of your day to post negative comments about Kahuku and its people…
And for what? What are you trying to accomplish?
Does it make your feel better about yourself to speak to people in a condescending fashion?
You sure picked a fine venue to get even with the world…. Big league debater huh?
Nah… Just a bully trying to rile up the group for entertainment… Weak Sauce…
Why does your weak mind find it necessary to prey upon innocents behind an Internet posting?
This is the kind of mentality that sick people have….
Do you also drive an old cargo kidnapping van and abuse small animals to pass time?
You should take your opinions to a sidewalk in that city and enjoy the day…
Your silly comments are immature, invalid, and close-minded….
I sense that you have a little historical hatred for the zip code….
Get over it and do something productive with your badself….

Does your actions grant you a false temporary power like the charging of a battery?

No it’s 27 different usernames sir! And for the record, so does my woman 88, his alter-ego 87, and a bunch of his fake RR4L names.

Let’s be real, until we have to use real names with subscriptions that authenticate who we are, we should all do it.

After all, if I have to read all your guys’ garbage without ever providing evidence (or rarely provided), trying to read sentences that do not have any structure, and trying to interpret elementary level thoughts, you should have to deal with my 27 usernames.

It’s only fair, don’t you think?

I am a little concerned that you are able to create these horrible thoughts in your mind. Even with my creative thinking I would not be able to recreate or create those kinds of thoughts. Let’s examine what you just said:

    1) Do you also drive an old cargo kidnapping van and abuse small animals to pass time?

That is a little disturbing. ILL is all I can say.

As for invalid, please explain to me how scientific numbers based on SBAC testing that is available for the entire world to see would qualify as being invalid. I posted numbers that the Department of Education uses to rate the school, the quality of teaching, and to assess how the students are doing.

I put scientific data taken from both the Department of Education of Hawaii website in addition to other credible websites.

So please explain how these scientific and objective numbers would qualify as invalid? I am pretty sure you cannot.

But thanks for enlightening the audience with your sick brain. Really? Abusing small animals? Who does that? And what it worse, who even thinks about that, nor would write about it online.

You are just sick my friend. I hope you don’t have any pets. I can only imagine what you are doing to them. Well actually I cannot think like that, it’s actually your job.
