It’s official: Pohai Lee to coach Baldwin

On June 4, Hawaii Prep World reported that Pohai Lee was close to becoming the football head coach at Baldwin.

It’s now official. Lee is taking over the Bears program, according to Rob Collias‘ story in the Maui News.

Lee, the nephew of heralded Saint Louis coach Cal Lee, is a former Damien athletic director who was also an assistant at Kaiser and Baldwin.

Lee’s real name is Thomas Pohaikealoha Lee. He was a member of Saint Louis’ 1983 Oahu Prep Bowl championship team.

Lee is also the son of former Montana Western head coach Tommy Lee, and he takes the Baldwin reins from Kaneke Pacheco.

Lee is the second new MIL football head coach this season. Maui High hired Keith Shirota in February to take over for outgoing David Bui.

Bui was arrested in February for alleged sexual assault involving explicit text messages with a female high school student, according to various media reports.

>> In other MIL football news, St. Anthony will not be fielding an 8-man team this season, according to the Maui News.
