Kailua defensive end Christian Mejia received a scholarship offer to play football for the University of Hawaii recently.

Mejia, who played basketball for the Surfriders this winter, will be a senior in the fall.

“I got a scholarship offer and it went good,” the 6-foot-4, 210-pounder texted Hawaii Prep World. “Me and my family are staying open for more options and in the long run, we are all going to make the decision on what’s best for me.”

Mejia was a big part of the Kailua turnaround under head coach Joe Wong from 0-7 in 2014 to 7-3 in 2015. He also plays tight end.
