GAME NIGHT 9/8: Punahou/Mililani

10:08: Game over.

10:01: Falatea catches a 27-yard Brady pass to set up Kaufusi’s 3-yard TD run. Malcolm Liufau’s kick goes wide left. PUNAHOU 43, MILILANI 21, 1:48 left in game.


9:58: Two Dillon Lundberg sacks leads to the Trojans giving the ball up on downs. Punahou ball at the Mililani 30.

9:54: Punahou punts. Mililani ball at its 22.

9:51: After a series of penalties by both teams, Gabriel’s fourth down pass is incomplete. Punahou ball at its 44.

9:34: Punahou’s Kennedy Freeman causes a Gabriel fumble and Liufau recovers. But Punahou does not advance the ball on three downs and punts. Mililani ball at its 27.

9:32: Gabriel hits Hill for a 29-yard gain, and 15 yards get added on for a roughing the passer penalty. The ball is at the Punahou 15.

9:31: Third quarter ends.

9:30: Punahou punts from deep in its own territory. Trojans ball at their 41.

9:23: Mililani gets a first down on a Malepeai 15-yard run, but the drive stalls. On fourth down, Gabriel, in a regular formation, boots a quick punt. Punahou ball at its 10.

9:16: Punahou drives into Trojans territory and Horn’s 47-yard field-goal attempt goes wide right.

9:09: The Buffanblu punt on their next possession. Mililani wanted to do the same, but a high punt snap goes all the way to the Trojans’ end zone, where punter Elijah Foki is tackled by a bunch of Punahou players. Kahanu Kia is there first for the safety. PUNAHOU 37, MILILANI 21, 3:27 left in third quarter.

9:00: After a false-start penalty, Gabriel connects with Chang for a 34-yard touchdown pass. McGehee kicks the extra point. PUNAHOU 35, MILILANI 21, 6:40 left in third quarter.

8:57: An 11-yard pass from Gabriel to Raysen Motoyama goes for 11 yards to the Punahou 29.

8:54: Scoreboard clock is working again.

8:53: On a third-down play, Gabriel scrambles for 5 yards. It’s fourth and 1, and Malepeai goes up the middle for 5 yards and a first down at the Punahou 40.

8:52: The Trojans pick up two quick first downs and have the ball at their 48.

8:48: Punahou will punt on its first possession. Mililani takes over at its 24.

8:44: Second half is underway.

8:26: Halftime (in real time, the first half lasted 1 hour, 49 minutes)

8:21: An innocent looking sideline pass from Brady to Falatea ends up being lethal. Falatea breaks free from his defender and sprints the rest of the way for an 88-yard touchdown. PUNAHOU 35, MILILANI 14, late second quarter (clock not working).

8:18: Trojans punt. Buffanblu start at the 8.

8:15: Chang catches two 14-yard passes, but the Trojans face a fourth down and 1 from their 45.

8:10: Koa Eldredge scores his second TD of the game, this time with a 52-yard catch and run on a pass from Brady. Horn kicks the extra point. PUNAHOU 28, MILILANI 14, late second quarter (clock not working).

8:07: Punahou’s Shiraki intercepts a Gabriel pass and returns it 85 yards for an apparent TD, but a penalty brings the ball way back. Buffanblu ball at their 20.

8:03: Ryan Chang catches a 20-yard Gabriel pass, and then Malepeai gains 12 yards while giving about five Buffanblu tacklers a ride. Trojans ball at the Punahou 31.

7:57: Terrell finds a hole on the right side of the line and speeds his way 58 yards for a touchdown. Horn kicks the extra point. PUNAHOU 21, MILILANI 14, 5:22 left in first half.

7:55: Malepeai gets the call. It will be close. He is stopped six inches short (after the chains measured) on a tackle by Alaka’i Gilman. Punahou ball at the 37.

7:52: It’s fourth and 1 for Mililani at the Punahou 38.

7:48: Gabriel escapes a heavy pass rush and unloads a 50-yard pass to Hill. Hill is whistled for a personal-foul penalty after the play, so the ball moves from the Punahou 32 to the 47.

7:41: Brady gets plenty of time and unloads a bomb to Koa Eldredge, who hauls it in at midfield and runs the rest of the way for a 75-yard touchdown. Horn adds the extra point. MILILANI 14, PUNAHOU 14, second quarter (clock not working).


7:39: Scoreboard clock is not working again.

7:34: Malepeai breaks free for a 31-yard run, and three plays later, Gabriel hits Hill in the front right corner of the end zone with a 3-yard TD pass. McGehee kicks the extra point. MILILANI 14, PUNAHOU 7, 8:09 left in first half.

7:31: Darius Muasau intercepts a Brady pass. Trojans ball at the Buffanblu 31.

7:30: Gabriel is sacked again, this time by Yoshi Kobayashi. The Trojans punt. Punahou ball at its 35.

7:28: Marist Liufau sacks Gabriel for 14 yards. It’s third and long.

7:27: Scoreboard is fully working now.

7:25: First quarter ends.

7:24: So far, this is a 47-minute (regular time) quarter.

7:21: It’s fourth down and 14 for the Buffanblu at the Mililani 37. Tim Horn comes in to attempt a 55-yard field goal and it falls short.

7:19: Kaulana Makaula intercepts a Gabriel pass and Punahou takes over on the 50.

7:18: Mililani’s McKenna Alcover drills Brady on a third down pass and it turns out to be an incompletion. Punahou punts. Mililani ball at its 41.

7:16: Punahou is hit with two penalties, but makes up for it somewhat with a Brady to Dancil-Evans 20-yard pass. It’s third down and 6 from the Buffanblu 31.

7:10: Ryan Chang’s 21-yard catch leads to Malepeai’s 21-yard up-the-middle TD run. Liam McGehee kicks the extra point. PUNAHOU 7, MILILANI 7, first quarter (scoreboard clock not working0

7:08: Maka Hill gets another first down with a 12-yard reception of a Gabriel pass.

7:07: Trojans get one first down on a Punahou personal-foul penalty and another on Gabriel’s third-down 3-yard run. Ball is at the Mililani 49.

7:01: Brady finds Les Falatea in the deep left corner of the end zone for an 11-yard TD. Horn kicks the extra point. PUNAHOU 7, MILILANI 0, unofficial time 6:11 left in first quarter.

6:59: On second down, Sitiveni Kaufusi scores an apparent TD from 1-yard out, but it is called back due to a holding penalty.

6:58: The scoreboard has been turned on, but it is not functional yet.

6:57: Punahou’s Trent Shiraki intercepts a Gabriel pass and returns it to the Mililani 5.

6:53: The Buffanblu can’t get farther and punt. Tim Horn’s punt pins the Trojans at their 4.

6:50: Punahou QB Hugh Brady throws two incompletions due to intense Trojans pressure. On third down, he finds Moku Dancil-Evans for 16 yards to to the Mililani 43.

6:48: Punahou’s Terrell runs 24 yards to the Mililani 46, but a 15-yard personl foul penalty brings it back to the Buffanblu 41.

6:45: Mililani gets just 5 yards on two Kilifi Malepeai runs and is punting.

6:44: Punahou’s Vincent Terrell is stopped short on a fourth and 2 from the Mililani 28.

6:40: Three straight incompletions by Trojans QB Dillon Gabriel lead to a Mililani punt. It’s a short one. Punahou ball at the Trojans’ 36.

6:38: The scoreboard is not working. Time is being kept on the field.

6:37: The kick goes into the end zone. Mililani to start at the 20.

6:35: The teams are ready to go. Waiting for a TV commercial before we start.


6:33: Mililani will receive the kick. Punahou will defend the south end zone at John Kauinana Stadium.

    Re-building is a reality for public schools, I feel bad for Mililani having to play undersized fresh/sophmores because there is no one else.

    Damn better community than where you live, for which you probably have a played out t-shirt with the name of that neighborhood all in capitalized letters and bold followed by PRIDE!!!!!

    Get an All-American City designation. THEN talk to a Mililanian about hometown pride. Our football program is just ONE of the things tgat make our community great.

    2 just providing his opinion on a FOOTBALL BLOG. That’s what’s discussed here. FOOTBALL. No attack on the community. We all have great things in our communities to be proud of. The boys gave it their best and it wasnt their day. Move on. No be salty about the loss.
