Na Alii drive to midfield, but lose possession on a fumble. That was a nice 12-yard gain. Been a tough night for Aiea.

Second half moving along quickly thanks to the mercy-rule running clock. Junior QB Seth Swoveland gets on the field and barely misses on a deep pass. Aiea takes over and calls time out with 3:58 to go.

Aiea has a new QB in the game, junior Jordan Cezar. Pretty good arm stregnth, a lefty. With Leilehua kicking off from its 10, Aiea got good field position immediately.

The Mules drive 62 yards in seven plays to score again. Turnagan finds Ramos again, this one for an 11-yard TD. Ramos and two teammates kneel in the corner of the end zone and hold up their hands in the Mauna Kea sign, and the yellow flag hits the turf. They kick the PAT 15 yards back, and are assessed another 30 yards on the kickoff. LEILEHUA 41, AIEA 0, Q3, 6:09.

Aiea goes three-and-out on the opening series of the second half. Punt. Leilehua ball at its 28.

OK, mahalo to the press announcer here. No. 34 for Leilehua is Jamill Vereen, who was called up to varsity recently because “he’s been tearing it up on JV.” Sounds like a good reason to me. This PA is one of the best. He and his spotter announce the number and name of the ballcarrier, and the tackler on EVERY DOWN within five seconds. Nobody else does that at high school sites besides Eli Kapu at Kahuku.

For a third time, we have a heavy downpour, the heaviest of the night. Leilehua is content to run the ball, especially with Akagi back in at QB. As the rain lets up, Turnagan goes back to QB and finds Ramos for a 33-yard pass play, then hits Akagi in the left corner for a 27-yard TD. Bad snap on the PAT. LEILEHUA 34, AIEA 0, Q2, :27.

Aiea starts the next series at its 40 after a 26-yard return by Javon Miller. Three plays later, Leilehua’s Vitale Afoa returns an interveption for a TD, but it is called back by penalty. Aiea punts, touchback.

Leilehua covers 80 yards in nine plays. No. 34, who is not on the roster, tears off a 45-yard gain to the 2, and Turnagan keeps around the left side for a 2-yard TD. LEILEHUA 28, AIEA 0, Q2, 4:27.

Aiea’s first true scoring opportunity is for naught. Field-goal try from 46 yards out is short. Touchback, Leilehua ball with 6:44 left in the second quarter.

Another Aiea three-and-out, punt and a 20-yard return by Jayzon Ramos gives the Mules first down at their 39. They drive 61 yards in seven plays. New QB Kalei Akagi keeps the ball on a speed option to the near side, then cuts back against the grain to the left and scores on a 39-yard TD. LEILEHUA 21, AIEA 0, Q2, 9:32

The Mules drive 65 yards in eight plays with a heavy dose of RB Damarion Smith. He carries four times for 39 yards before QB Kekoa Turnagan fires a bullet to WR Konapiliahi Raymond for a 15-yard TD. LEILEHUA 14, AIEA 0, Q1, :42.

Na Alii in trips formations most of the time, trying to establish a ground game. So far they have three carries for minus-7 yards before QB Kayson Castillo keeps for 37 yards. And so much for the forecast’s 0% chance of rain. It’s falling again. Aiea turns the ball over on downs and Leilehua has the ball at its 35.

Aiea goes three and out, and the punt takes a bounce past midfield, where Ethan Kuth swings to the right sideline, fighting off a tackler, and cuts back across the grain to the left pylon for a 62-yard TD. WOH. LEILEHUA 7, AIEA 0, Q1, 7:15.

Leilehua’s opening series ends with a fumble on a sack. Aiea ball at its 31.

PRE-GAME
7:34 p.m.
Leilehua will receive the opening kickoff and Aiea will defend the California Avenue end zone. The field and surroundings are wet from earlier showers, but there is no rain right now.

7:20 p.m.
Conditions have cooled and the bleachers are packed on the Leilehua side for homecoming. It’s bustling here.
Temp: 77
Wind 0-10 mph
Humidity: 75%
Heat index: 77
Chance of rain: 0%
I take the “chance of rain” with a grain of salt. It was wet up the hill at Wahiawa Heights, and this campus is well known for a good shower or two on game nights. Otherwise, it’s a beautiful night for football.

5:15 p.m.
Weather in Wahiawa has been sunny and hot this afternoon. Weather.com says it is 82, which is comical because it’s closer to 90 now that the strong trade winds have died down. This is homecoming night for the mighty Mules. Kickoff will be somewhere around 7:30 p.m. Expect a longer stay at the stadium due to homecoming festivities.

Temp: 82
Wind 0-14 mph
Humidity: 61%
Heat index: 86
Chance of rain: 5%
