GAME NIGHT 8/17: Kahuku/Waianae

10:30: Game over.

10:23: Good news. Bad news. For Waianae. Lopes throws a 40-yard TD pass to Daniel Wetter, but is hit hard by Kahuku’s Tyson Pualoa and goes down, needing medical attention. He walks off the field, but is shaken up. Joshua Cid kicks the extra point. KAHUKU 49, WAIANAE 13, 3:11 left in game.


10:15: After a short Waianae punt, Ikaika Wells catches an 18-yard TD pass from Sauvao. An Erickson extra-point kick is blocked by Waianae’s Braeson Rosa. KAHUKU 49, WAIANAE 6, 6:25 left in game.

10:04: Tambaoan runs for 29 yards combined on two carries and two first downs. But on the next play, Kahuku’s Ace Kaufusi steps in front of a Lopes pass and returns it 56 yards for a touchdown. Heffernan kicks the extra point. KAHUKU 43, WAIANAE 6, 10:45 left in game.

10:00: Third quarter ends.

9:58: On the next play, Lopes’ pass is picked off by Kaniho and he takes it back 76 yards for a touchdown. Heffernan adds the extra point. KAHUKU 36, WAIANAE 6, 0:08 left in third quarter.

9:56: Ethan Erickson’s punt for Kahuku is blocked by Waianae’s Travis Koki.

9:51: Lopes hits Chad Pule with a 7-yard TD pass. Elijah Aken’s kick is blocked by Kahuku’s Joshua Singh. KAHUKU 29, WAIANAE 6, 2:24 left in third quarter.

9:48: Seariders have a fourth and 5 on the Kahuku 11. A pass interference penalty gives Waianae a first down.

9:44: Another pass to Joseph brings the ball to the Kahuku 31. And a pass interference penalty follows on the Red Raiders. Waianae ball on the 16.

9:42: Waianae is moving. Lopes passes to Kenneth Joseph Jr. for a 19-yard gain to the Red Raiders’ 45.

9:31: A punt snap goes way over the head of Thompson Avilla. It bounds toward the end zone, gets kicked, and then Aaron Fonoimoana-Vaomu dives to recover it in the end zone for a touchdown. It’s his second touchdown of the same type of the night. Heffernan misses the extra point. KAHUKU 29, WAIANAE 0, 7:07 left in third quarter.

9:28: Shaydon Lopes is in at QB for the Seariders. Tacgere was hurt near the end of the first half.

9:24: Alo-Maiava scores on an elephant-package run from 3 yards out. Heffernan kicks the extra point. KAHUKU 23, WAIANAE 0, 8:51 left in third quarter.

9:22: Sauvao back in at QB to start the second half. He hits Paulo for 6 yards and a first down at the Waianae 7.

9:20: Red Raiders have a fourth down and 3 at the Seariders’ 13.

9:16: Kahuku’s Zealand Matagi runs back the second-half kickoff 62 yards to the Waianae 33.

8:55: Alapa’s pass to Wes Alo-Maiava goes for 34 yards to the Waianae 46. 5 seconds left in first half.

8:53: Tacgere’s pass into the end zone is a jump ball that is picked off by Kahuku’s Kaonohi.

8:49: An offside penalty followed by a personal foul on Kahuku moves the ball to the Red Raiders’ 15. 1:02 to go in first half.


8:44: Waianae is moving, thanks to a helmet-to-helmet personal foul on Kahuku and a 4-yard Tambaoan-Kaeo run. A shovel pass to Thompson-Avilla goes for 3 yards, and Fano runs for 3 more yards. First down at the Kahuku 37.

8:40: A calf-high snap bounces off of punter Thompson-Avilla hands. He picks it up and punts, but it is blocked by KJ Macatiag. The ball rolls into the end zone, where it is picked up by Aaron Fonoimoana-Vaomu for a Red Raiders touchdown. Heffernan kicks the extra point. KAHUKU 16, WAIANAE 0, 2:42 left in second quarter.

8:36: Eteuati Lui picks up a first down for Waianae with a 10-yard run. The Seariders go as far as their 44 before stalling and going into punt formation.

8:30: Two plays later, Thorton Alapa — now in at QB for the Red Raiders — finds Mason Paulo down the left sideline for a 31-yard touchdown. Duke Heffernan kicks the extra point. KAKUKU 9, WAIANAE 0, 5:31 left in the second quarter.

8:28: A short punt gives Kahuku great field position at the 26. But the ball goes back 15 yards due to a facemask penalty.

8:26: Alex Fonoimoana-Vaomu sacks Tacgere for a 12-yard loss to the 5. Waianae punts.

8:22: Paul Fano gets the call and gains 12 yards for a Waianae first down, with many of his defensive teammates in on the offensive line.

8:20: Seariders pinned at their 5.

8:18: Sauvao scrambles for 10 yards to the Seariders’ 40. Three incomplete passes later, it’s fourth and 10.

8:17: Sauvao hits a wide-open Lokana Enos for a gain of 31 to the 48.

8:15: After a Waianae punt, it’s Kahuku ball at its own 17.

8:14: First quarter ends.

8:13: Fiatoa sacks Tacgere. It brings up a fourth down and 17 from the Kahuku 45.

8:08: Punter Ethan Erickson throws a fourth-down pass to Nalu Emerson, but the play loses 3 yards. Waianae ball at the 50.

8:07: Red Raiders face a fourth and 8.

8:06: Aaron Fonoimoana-Vaomu partially blocks the punt, but it the ball still gets to midfield. Kahuku starts there.

8:03: Tausili Fiatoa and Elijah Latu dump Waianae’s Kaai Tambaoan-Kaeo for a 5-yard loss. The Seariders can’t dig out of the hole and punt.

8:02: Waianae’s defense comes up with a big stop again, pressuring Sauvao. The Red Raiders punt.

7:56: Tacgere gains seven yards on a third-down scramble, but it isn’t enough. Waianae punts and Red Raiders take over on their 37.

7:53: Red Raiders will be punting after gaining just two yards on the first three plays. Zefften Thompson-Avilla was in on two tackles for Waianae.

7:50: Kahuku will start from its own 34 after the kick. Robbie Sauvao is in at QB.

7:47: Sacks of Seariders QB Justin Tacgere by Zion Ah You and Aaron Fonoimoana-Vaomu pushes the ball back to the 7. On the next play, the punter receives a low snap near the end line and is gang tackled for a safety. Tuia Tupuola gets credit for the safety.m KAHUKU 2, WAIANAE 0, 9:49 left in first quarter.


7:44: Waianae takes the opening kickoff. First and 10 at the 24.

    “Just a comedy of snapping errors”…Felipe Ojastro on a Waianae’s long snapping problems.

    Sheeesh Waianae do you proactive long snapping? When playing Kahuku you need to be flawless.

    Offense needs work. I thought BigRed would establish the run and use their big TightEnds more but they had a different game plan. I’m still trying to figure out what that was. No play set up the next play. Can’t play like that against St.Louis and expect to win. Hope to see improvement next week. Let’s go Coaches…
