GAME NIGHT 8/17: Aiea/Moanalua

That’s the ball game. Moanalua knocks off Aiea 38-26.
Note of concern: Kayson Castillo, the Aiea quarterback, was hurt earlier in the fourth quarter on a sack. Castillo being taken to the hospital now as the teams shake hands.

Trequan Henderson with the interception! Henderson picks off Fabian Bautista at the Moanalua 12, and returns it 88 yards for a touchdown! Moanalua with some breathing room with 2 minutes left in the game.

Third down for Aiea on Moanalua’s 18. With 3:09 left in the fourth, this could very well be the ball game. Aiea calls for a timeout. Moanalua still leads 31-26.


Moanalua and Aiea have combined for 284 penalty yards. Moanalua has 160, Aiea has 124.

Aiea gets a break, as Moanalua muffs the snap on an attempted punt. Aiea recovers the ball at the Moanalua 39.

End of the third quarter. Moanalua leads 31-26.

Kalahiki-Basque hauls in a 10-yard touchdown pass from Castillo. PAT is no good.
Kalahiki-Basque now has 4 catches for 124 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Moanalua answers right back, as Trequan Henderson returns the ensuing kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown! Palalay’s PAT is good, ad Moanalua back ahead 31-20.

Austin Mogote with a 65-yard scoop and score off a fumble by CJ Paleafei! PAT is good, and Aiea trims Moanalua’s lead to 24-20.

A bad snap over the head of Castillo goes into the end zone, where it is recovered from Moanalua’s Buffalo Kruize III for a touchdown. Moanalua now leads 24-13.

Moanalua inflicting a lot of self-induced errors, with 7 penalties for 89 yards. Will have to clean that up in the second half.

Moanalua was driving, but Au is picked off at the Aiea 35, and Aiea kneels to send it into halftime.


Aiea has a touchdown taken off the board with an illegal man downfield penalty, but get it back on the next play, as Kayson Castillo drills a 48-yard pass to Kalahiki-Basque for a touchdown. PAT is good, and Moanalua leads 17-13 with 1:23 left in the half.

CJ Paleafei with a 38-yard catch and run to the two, then hauls in a 2-yard TD pass from Nick Au, tapping the toes down in the back corner of the end zone. PAT is good. Moanalua now leads 17-6 with 2:00 left in the half.

Thomas Heulett’s PAT try is blocked by Jesse Kaohi. Moanalua 10, Aiea. 6 with 4:47 left in the half.

Aiea’s Zacharia Kalahiki-Basque hauls in a 30-yard TD pass from Kayson Castillo, but pays the price, as he was walloped at the end of the play. Kalahiki-Basque was able to walk off under his own power. Moanalua 10, Aiea 6, with the PAT pending.

Nick Au is picked off in the end zone, ending Moanalua’s drive. Aiea takes over at their own 20.
Moanalua leads 10–0 as the first quarter comes to a close.

After an interception, Nick Au checks in at quarterback and hits Ezra Grace for a 25-yard touchdown. Extra point is good, and Moanalua now leads 10-0, with 3:05 in the first quarter.

Luke Palalay with a 31 yard FG. Moanalua leads 3-0 with 3:33 left in the first quarter.

Rudy Kealohi is starting at quarterback for Nick Au, who was injured last week. Kealohi reportedly will play the first possession.

Malaefono Ale for Moanalua has been ejected for throwing a punch.

Moanalua has won the toss and elected to defer to the second half.
