GAME NIGHT 8/10: Damien/Radford

Damien gets a first down by penalty and runs out the clock.

Deep ball is intercepted by Kevin Edwards. Damien ball at the Radford 36 with 4:14 left. Holtz fumbles on an exchange and Malik Rhines scoops up the loose ball for Radford. He returns it to the Damien 28. Personal foul on Damien gives Radford possession at the 14.  Danneh Alpha powers to the 1. Copp throws the a fade to Emmanual Stevenson who makes a tough catch. TOUCHDOWN RADFORD. PAT failed. 2:10

Holtz connects with Lauti for a 25-yard completion to the Radford 16. Three plays later, Holtz looks for Lauti again on a 12-yard out. TOUCHDOWN DAMIEN. PAT good. 5:30 left.


Damien goes three and out. Radford ball at its 45. A miscue on an option pitch results in a fumble and Jon Dalmacio recovers for Damien.

Holtz hits Lauti over the middle for 14 yards to the Radford 46. Menise Pase stops Holtz for a 2-yard loss on third down and Damien punts. Quarter ends with Radford at its 40. Rams pick up a first down on encroachment and another on defensive holding. Sack by Duke Hoohuli results in a 4-yard loss, a deep ball is incomplete and Radford punts.

Radford converts on third-and-7, but is called for consecutive false starts. Copp looks to his left, but Kauhi is there for the Damien interception. 3:40.

Dejuan James picks up 10 yards on first down and appears to have another, but holding brings it back and the drive stalls at the Rams 33. The punt snap sails high and goes into the end zone and Bubba Kauhi recovers. TOUCHDOWN DAMIEN. PAT good. 6:18

Monarchs lose 2 yards on first down. Two incomplete passes brings up fourth and 12. Damien takes a delay of game and punts. Touchback. Radford ball.

Second half starts with Radford at its own 5 after a no gain on the kickoff return. Rams go three-and-out and punt from their 10. Damien ball at the Radford 35.

Radford forced to punt from its 25 with 2:20 left in the half. Damien takes over at its 36. Holtz scrambles for 8 yards to bring up third-and-2. Timeout Damien at 1:53. Monarchs pick up the first down, Holtz over the middle to Logan Lauti for 15 more to the Radford 39. Holtz picks up 7 on a keeper, timeout Damien, 1:08. Sevilleja makes a nince adjustment on a slant for an 11-yard completion. Screen to Sulu goes 20 yards to the 1. Sulu dives in. TOUCHDOWN DAMIEN. PAT good. :15.

Holtz connects with Jarvis Natividad down the middle for 26 yards to the Radford 13. Holtz then fakes a handoff, rolls left and throws a fade to Sevilleja, who makes the catch and this time it stands. TOUCHDOWN DAMIEN. PAT good. 4:00.

The penalty-fest continues with two holding calls on Radford. The Rams get a good roll on the punt. Damien ball at midfield.

Radford gets back-to-back sacks, but both are effectively negated by personal fouls. Damien moves to the 25 where the Monarchs face fourth-and-7. Incomplete pass under pressure gives Radford the ball back.

Radford QB Hunter Copp completes a 13-yard pass and picks up another first down when he scoops up a fumble and rumbles to the Damien 40. But offensive pass interference pushes the Rams back and they punt. A horsecollar moves the ball close to midfield and the quarter ends with a short Damien completion to midfield.

Damien’s Lindon Sevilleja gets loose on a short pass and is dragged down at the Radford 4 for a 55-yard gain. But offsetting penalties bring the play back. Sulu converts on 3-and-2 and Jake Holtz connects with Sevilleja deep down the middle for a 49-yard score, except for another holding call. Damien gets back into Radford territory but has to punt again.

After two incomplete passes, Damien jumps offside twice to give the Rams a first down. Kendall Saxton moves the Rams into Damien territory with a 10-yard run. The drive stalls and Radford punts. Damien ball at its 10.

A penalty on first down pushes the Monarchs back. Aperamo Sulu picks up six yards on two carries but Damien punts. Radford takes over at its 25, 9:43.

Radford wins the toss and defers. Damien will receive the opening kickoff.

Roosevelt defeats Radford 38-19 in the JV game. The scoreboard isn’t working, so the official time will be kept on the field.
