GAME NIGHT 8/23: Radford/Kailua

Kailua 26, Radford 14, Final

 

10:30: Kailua holds the Rams one last time to earn its first win of the season. Kala’i Cardin-Kiaha with an interception for the Surfriders with one second left.

10:26: The Surfriders turn the ball over on downs at the Radford 4. The Rams have 53 seconds for a miracle.


10:20: Radford turns it over on downs on its own 35 with 3:39 left.

10:13: Yee Hoy with his second two-yard rushing score of the game. Kailua has to burn two timeouts on the two-point conversion, which it ultimately doesn’t convert. Nonetheless, the game may have been put out of reach with that last score.

10:03: Kamakele drops what could have been his second pick-six but Kailua forces another Radford punt. The Surfriders get the ball back on the Radford 44 with 9:03 left.

9:57: Radford forces a three-and-out and will start from its own 28 with 10:06 left in the fourth.

9:54: Kailua gets a chance to add to its lead, starting from its own 39 after a Radford punt.

FOURTH QUARTER

9:51: End of the third. Radford faces third-and-long from their own 30 to start the fourth.

9:45: Friel then throws an interception on the next play to the Radford 23. This is nuts.

9:44: This game just keeps getting crazier. Kala’i Cardin-Kiaha with the interception for Kailua to its own 30.

9:42: WHOA. Radford recovers a fumble at the Kailua 46 with 4:09 left in the third.

9:39: No touchdown on the next play, as Kailua will start from its own 16 after the next kickoff.

9:38: RADFORD WITH THE RESPONSE. Damon Nelson returns the ensuing kickoff 84 yards TO THE HOUSE. Saxton’s kick is good and it’s 20-14 with 4:32 left in the third. Whew. What a sequence.

9:35: PICK SIX JAYDEN KAMAKELE. The Kailua DB swoops in on what was clearly a miscommunication for Radford on a 23-yard score. Jones’ kick is good and the Surfriders extend their lead to 20-7 with 4:47 left in the third.

9:32: Kailua can’t add to its lead and punts. Radford on its own 20 with 5:27 left in the third.

9:25: The Rams pick up a couple of first downs then are forced to punt. Kailua gets the ball back on its own 35 with 9:13 left in the third.

9:19: Radford returns the opening kick of the second half to its own 24.

THIRD QUARTER

9:04: Radford runs out the first half clock and will receive the second half kickoff down 13-7.


9:01: Touchdown Kailua after a string of timeouts, as Hastings Yee Hoy punches it in from 2 yards out with 22 seconds left in the half. PAT is blocked.

8:51: Jon Tavares intercepts Radford’s JT Tavisi to the Rams’ 45 with 1:56 left in the half.

8:50: Another holding call kills Kailua on offense. The Surfriders’ punt is BLOCKED and Radford will start at midfield, 2:06 left in the half.

8:46: This one’s turning into a defensive struggle as Radford goes three-and-out yet again. After the punt, Kailua has 4:01 to score before the half at the Radford 35.

8:43: Friel appears to have thrown his second deep touchdown of the day, but it comes back due to a holding call. Kailua punts to the Radford 25 with 4:53 left in the half.

8:38: Victorino-Avilla is picked off by Keoni Williams and Kailua has the ball at the Radford 28.

8:36: Radford forces a punt and gets the ball back on its own 27 with 6:26 left in the half.

8:32: Kailua gets the ball back on its own 37 with 8:24 left in the half after a Radford punt.

8:26: Friel is intercepted by Cade Smith to the Radford 45.

SECOND QUARTER

8:20: Radford evens up the game on a 17-yard score from Kalob Victorino-Avilla to Kendall Saxton with 21 seconds to go in the first. Saxton’s PAT is good and we’re even at 7.

8:12: Kailua gets in Radford territory but can’t capitalize and ultimately punts. Radford gets the ball back on its own 15 with 3:58 left in the first.

8:06: Kailua gets the ball right back after a quick three-and-out and punt by Radford. The Surfriders get the ball back on their own 46 with 5:08 remaining in the first.

8:02: TOUCHDOWN KAILUA. Cameron Friel finds a wide open Koali’i Kohatsu in stride for a 48-yard score. Morgan Jones‘ PAT is good and the Surfriders’ lead is 7-0 with 6:08 left in the first quarter.

7:56: Radford turns it over on downs at the Kailua 18 with 8:10 left in the first.

7:52: Radford starts its first offensive drive from the Kailua 42 after a quick three-and-out and punt from the Surfriders.

7:49: Kailua receives the opening kickoff and will start from its own 9.

FIRST QUARTER


7:25 p.m.: Kailua wins the JV game 40-18. The varsity game is facing around a 20-minute kickoff delay.
