GAME NIGHT 8/10: Kailua/Leilehua

8:45: Game over.

8:43: Friel’s fourth-down pass falls incomplete. Leilehua ball. 1:16 to go. The Mules will run out the clock.


8:37: A Friel pass to Rasay covers 26 yards to the Kailua 46. 2:01 left in game.

8:36: Once again, Kailua’s defense stops Leilehua cold. The Mules punt into the end zone. Kailua ball at its 20 with 2:34 left in game.

8:32: Friel is sacked by Leilehua’s Savion Brown and he fumbles. Ashton Raquino recovers and gains lots of yardage, but a penalty brings the ball all the way back to the Mules’ 40.

8:28: Friel’s short passes to Samson Rasay and Ryanen Ho Mook have the Surfriders at the Leilehua 44.

8:22: Three incomplete passes and a short gain later, the Mules give the ball up on downs.

8:20: The punt snap goes over the head of the punter for Kailua and it rolls for a 27-yard loss. Leilehua ball at the Kailua 20. 8:18 to go.

8:19: The Surfriders once again get some nickels and dimes and two first downs by penalties but find themselves punting again.

8:13: Mules going for it on fourth down and goal from the 21. A Kalei Akagi pass goes out of the end zone. Kailua ball at the 20.

8:09: Third quarter ends.

8:08: An 11-yard punt return by Ethan Kuth brings the ball to the Kailua 27. Damarion Smith rumbles for 17 yards to the Kailua 10.

8:06: The defensive quagmire continues. Kailua will punt from its own 7.

8:05: The Surfriders’ defense continues to hold. Leilehua punts. But for that defensive effort, the Kailua offense gets to start at its own 6.

8:01: After a first down, Kailua can’t get farther and punts. The Mules Ramos returns it 28 yards to the Surfriders 45.

7:55: A Kalei Akagi to Vasquez pass goes for 14 yards, but Leilehua stalls and punts it away. Surfriders ball at their own 23.

7:51: Kailua is going for it on fourth and 4 from the 27. Friel’s pass falls incomplete. Leilehua ball at the 27.

7:49: The Surfriders are driving. Kamryn Kahoonei catches passes of 8 and 7 yards from Friel, moving the ball to the Leilehua 26.

7:48: Kalei Akagi fumbles the first snap of the second half and Renzo Adobas recovers at the Mules’ 44.

7:29: Second quarter ends.

7:28: Once again, Kailua can’t move and punts. 22 seconds left in first half.

7:22: The Surfriders’ defense stiffens. Leilehua is punting from its own 21. Kailua takes over at its own 47 after a short punt.

7:19: Kailua nickels and dimes some yardage for a first down, but eventually punts after getting to its 36.

7:15: Leilehua can’t move and punt it away. Kailua ball at its own 15.

7:11: Three straight Kane runs net 12 yards and a first down, but on the next play Friel is hit by Cy Acohido and fumbles. Jashawn Wakefield recovers for the Mules.

7:06: The Mules face a fourth and two from the 23 and so punt it away. Kailua ball at its 45.

7:03: Kailua gets some hard running by Lahaina Kane an Friel, but the drive stalls at the 45 and the Surfriders punt it away.

7:00: First quarter ends.

7:00: Kailua is driving. Ball at the Surfriders’ 45.

6:53: Another Akagi pass to Ramos covers 20 yards and the Mules set up shop at the 4. Three plays later, Akagi sneaks in for a 1-yard touchdown. Raymond kicks the extra point. LEILEHUA 14, KAILUA 0, 2:39 left in first quarter.

6:48: A Kalei Akagi pass to Ramos goes for 15 yards to the Kailua 44.

6:45: Surfriders can’t move and punt it away for the second time. Leilehua ball at its 34.

6:41: Three plays and one first down later, Leilehua quarterback Kalei Akagi hits Jonathan Vasquez in stride for a 33-yard touchdown. Konapiliahi Raymond kicks the extra point. LEILEHUA 7, KAILUA 0, 8:57 left in first quarter.

6:38: Jayzon Ramos returns thew punt 41 yards for an apparent touchdown. It’s called back due to a penalty. Mules ball on the Surfriders’ 48.

6:37: Kailua gets bogged down, thanks mostly to a Gabriel Araki sack, and punts.

6:34: Cameron Friel in at QB for Surfriders. He unloads an 80-yard apparent touchdown pass to Kamryn Kahoonei. The play is called back for holding.
