GAME NIGHT 10/1: Pearl City/McKinley

Light schedule on Oahu with UH playing Nevada at the stadium.

One of two OIA Division II matchups pits league-leader Pearl City (4-1, 4-0) against McKinley (0-5, 0-4) at Roosevelt. The series is tied 5-5-1 in the Prep Bowl and state championship eras.


Updates from the 5 p.m. kickoff follow:

7:49 p.m.: And it’s final. McKinley was game, but Pearl City just had too much.


7:20 p.m:
Pearl City goes to the air this time, Kekainalu Simon hitting Calvin Mock for a 23-yard touchdown pass. Chargers in control 23-0 with 6:22 left.


7:11 p.m.: Zion Tupuola-Fetui wrangles McKinley’s quarterback to the turf for a safety, Chargers extend lead to 16-0 with 10:05 left in the game.

6:42 p.m.: Charles Freitas strikes again, this time from 20 yards out. Khan’s kick is true and the Chargers are up 14-0 with 8:32 left in the third.

6:06 p.m.:
And we hit the half with the Chargers up by a slim 7-0 margin.


5:58 p.m.: The Chargers finally solve McKinley’s defense, but they need a fake punt to do it. After they get into the red zone, Pearl City’s Charles Freitas blasts into the end zone from two yards out. Zameer Khan adds the extra point, Pearl City leads 7-0 with 2:51 left before halftime.

5:28 p.m.: McKinley’s defense came to play on homecoming. A lot of punts and they finish the first quarter in a scoreless tie.
