GAME NIGHT 10/18: Kailua/Moanalua

Moanalua recovers the onside kick and runs out the clock.

Friel with three completions to pick up a couple of first downs. He’s sacked on a third down and Kailua takes its final timeout with :26.1 left. Friels hits Clevenger for 33 yards over the middle. After a spike, Friel hits Nainoa Peters, who fumbles at the goal line. Clevenger recovers in the end zone for the TOUCHDOWN. PAT good. :09.3 left.


Rudy Kealohi in at QB for Moanalua. A penalty wipes out a touchdown pass on third down. Kailua takes timeout before fourth and goal from the 6. Motas’ 22-yard field goal hits the left upright. Kailua ball, 1:20 Q4.

Moanalua fumbles it away on first down. On first down, Friel’s throw is intercepted by Grace. Moanalua ball at the 9. 2:41 Q4.

Friel back in for Kailua. He’s sacked on consecutive plays and the Surfriders line up to punt. Moanalua takes a timeout and Kailua decides to go for it. The pass is incomplete and Moanalua takes over at the Kailua 16. 3:02 Q4.

So’onaoso Saole-Teixeira picks up first downs with runs of 14 and 11 yards. Moanalua moves to the Kailua 35. Three consecutive penalties moves Na Menehune back to their 48. Javar is hit hard as he throws and the ball pops right to receiver Dacyres Domingo who picks up 17 yards. Javar stays down but is able to walk off on his own. Moanalua punt ends with a touchback. 4:12 Q4.

Kailua takes it right back with a fumble recovery at the Surfriders’ 11. Kailua picks up a first down on a pass interference. Friel stays down after an incomplete pass over the middle. He’s able to walk off the field on his own. Landon Clevenger takes over at QB. After a short completion, Kailua punts. Moanalua ball at its 31. 8:23 Q4.

Friel completes a pass over the middle for 21 yards. His next throw is intercepted by Chase Tau, who returns it to midfield. 10:34 Q4.

Third quarter ends with Moanalua at the Kailua 36. Na Menehune go for it on fourth-and-6 and a deep ball draws a flag. Offsetting penalties brings up fourth down again. Moanalua goes for it again and the pass sails incomplete. Kailua ball, 11:07 Q4.

Kailua starts at its 24. Surfirders pick up a 11 yards on first down. Friel’s third-down pass downfield is dropped and Kailua punts. Jansen York returns it 23 yards to the Kailua 39.

Moanalua goes three and out. Motas lines up a 42-yard field goal and his kick struggles, bounces off the crossbar and over and it’s GOOD. 1:38 Q3.

Unsportsmanlike conduct on Kailua pushes the Surfriders to the 12 to start the drive. Kailua punt bounces backward and is downed at the Surfriders’ 21. 2:40 Q3.

Moanalua going quick and Javar completes five in a row to move to the Kailua 25. After a Kailua timeout, Javar rolls right and finds Rudy Kealohi for a 25-yard TOUCHDOWN. The PAT snap is bobbled and Kealohi tosses it to Brad Lilo for a 2-point conversion. 3:40 Q3.

Kailua feeding Rasay and he picks up a first down. He comes up just short on a third and 2. Surfriders go for it on fourth-and-1 at their 31 and Ramsey Ieae, a defensive lineman, surges forward for 2 yards and the first down. Kailua stalls there and punts. Moanalua ball at its 33. 4:53 Q3.

Moanalua receives the third quarter kickoff and starts at its 31. Na Menehune pick up two first downs to move to the Kailua 33. Ineligible receiver and holding penalties push them back to midfield. Motas’ punt is downed at the Kailua 10.

Friel connects with Rasay on a wheel route for a 39-yard completion to the Moanalua 35. Friel connects on third and 9 to keep the drive going. A 6-yard scramble and 8-yard screen to Rasay moves the ball to the 11. After a spike, pass interference gives Kailua second-and-5 at the 6. Two incomplete passes and Kailua calls timeout before fourth down. 18.6 seconds left. Surfriders go for it and Friel’s pass over the middle is caught by Landon Clevenger for the 6-yard TOUCHDOWN. Moanalua brings it out to the 23 before the drive stalls and Na Menehune punt. Kailua starts at its 36 with 1:12 left in the half.

Friel completes a 23-yard pass to Kamryn Kahoonei to move into Moanalua territory. Three plays later, Friel goes deep again and this time its intercepted by Aukai Grace at the Na Menehune 5. Moanalua’s third pick of the first half. 2:14 Q2.

Javar gets Na Menehune to the 1 on a 15-yard scramble. After a timeout, Javar lofts a pass to a wide-open Jansen York for a 2-yard TOUCHDOWN pass on third and goal. PAT good. 3:34 Q2.

Kailua starts at its 20. Samson Rasay breaks through the middle for 28 yards. Holding call moves Kaliua back to its 35. Friel’s third-down pass is intercepted by Jesus Lopez Jr. at the Kailua 48.

Moanalua picks up 5 yards and a third-down pass falls incomplete. Motas’ 42-yard FG attempt goes wide left. 9:16 Q2.

Kailua starts at its 20 after a touchback. Surfriders get pushed back inside the 10 on a sack and go three and out. Moanalua takes over at the Kailua 30 after the punt.

RJ Javar at QB for Moanalua. Na Menehune mix run and pass to drive to the Kailua 24 in 12 plays. The first quarter ends with Moanalua at the Surfriders’ 24 and lining up for a field goal. Griffin Motas opens the second quarter by drilling a line drive through the uprights for a 41-yard FIELD GOAL. 11:56 Q2.

Kailua will start at its 24. Cameron Friel starts at QB for Kailua. Surfriders hold the ball for half of the opening quarter and drive to the Moanalua 14. Friel’s third-down pass into the end zone is intercepted by Christian Sison and he brings it out to the 13, where Moanalua will starts its first drive at 5:59 Q1.

Kailua wins the toss and will receive the opening kickoff.
