Crusaders move up in USA Today Super 25

A day after dropping a spot in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 national rankings, Saint Louis made a small jump in the USA Today Super 25, moving up to No. 13 in the latest rankings released today.

The Crusaders moved past Bishop Gorman, which got shut out 42-0 by No. 3 Mater Dei (Calif.) on Friday. Like the MaxPreps rankings, Mater Dei remained where it was ranked (No. 3) despite the announcement last week that it had to forfeit its first game due to the use of an ineligible player.

The Crusaders are one of only five 2-0 teams in the top 25 and had the potential to be the only 3-0 team before their game against Mililani scheduled for Saturday was canceled due to the threat of Hurricane Lane.

Saint Louis is again idle this week but still could potentially move up in the rankings. Key games this weekend include No. 6 St. John’s (Washington D.C.) against No. 11 Hoover (Ala.) and No. 5 Grayson (Ga.) vs. No. 12 Bergen Catholic (N.J.).

St. John Bosco, which hosts Mililani on Friday and is the No. 1 team in the country according to MaxPreps, is ranked No. 2 by USA Today behind IMG Academy (Fla.).

St Louis will NEVER move into the Top 5 if they don’t play 3 to 4 Top 15 National teams a year!
Bishop Gorman won 3 straight National titles cause they played Top teams from all over the country.
STL can win 50 games in a row in Hawaii and it won’t matter in National rankings..

  2. TD August 27, 2018 12:00 pm

Yes, wishing the Crusaders climb to the top the same as Hawaii LL. It shows Hawaii has top notch football teams and athletes.

  3. Ilh August 27, 2018 12:25 pm

???, you said they will be ranked in the top 5, but they are still a top team in the Country, solid team this year, ??? Maybe you are from RRFL that’s why you say that, hatred that’s all

  4. Ilh August 27, 2018 12:26 pm

??? Sorry, you said NOT in the top 5

  5. SLS August 27, 2018 1:59 pm

SLS needs to play teams like Centennial, Gorman, Mater Dei if they ever want to be the top team in the country. They are still one of the top programs but need better competition.

  6. ??? August 27, 2018 3:04 pm

Not Hating, just saying they should play more Top mainland teams so they can move up!
Beating Hawaii schools will not make them move past a 1 loss Mater Dei, Bosco, Gorman or IMG “Duh”
Didn’t mean to Hurt your feelings Mr ILH!
Oh wait, you the same guy said STL no Recruit 😂

  7. Dafun August 27, 2018 3:58 pm

Anybody from public school is always gonna say ILH recruits. That’s just the way it is.

  8. island775 August 27, 2018 5:44 pm

So what is it going to be? You want St. Louis to be on top nationally, so you can say Hawaii high school football is top notch, or you want to ridicule St. Louis week in and week out for “recruiting”. ??? – Did you really just say that other Hawaii high schools aren’t on the same level as St. Louis?

  9. Awrite!! August 27, 2018 7:40 pm

The ILH need to take their recruited talent and resources and set their target on the other mainland schools that recruit.

Nothing impressive about picking on the dis-advantaged public schools in the OIA nor making the mainland schools come to Hawaii to play you. Mililani is traveling to Cali to play the #1 in the nation, now that is something I can tip my hat to.

  10. LetsPlay.. August 27, 2018 7:51 pm

Kinda makes you wonder how they come up with these rankings..If you think about it, St.Louis really hasn’t played anybody in the last 5 years ..Go figure…

  11. ilh August 27, 2018 8:31 pm

Saint Louis must be damn good here in Hawaii, all the haters comes out against them, everyone talking about Saint Louis, why don’t you pick on Punahou, they recruit too, but, it always was and will continue to happen, thats just the way it is. now go pick on the other ILH schools that you say recruiting.

  12. Hawaii five 0 August 27, 2018 9:25 pm

Cal Lee gotta talk to the STL committee and convince them to lift that travel band… thats the only way they going play top elite teams like mater dei, IMG and Bosco every year. And have an legitimate shot at being crown the #1 high school in the country. Mater Dei just played Bishop Gorman last week. I believe IMG is playing the school Sol-jay is at. top teams playing top teams with that 2 year agreement taking turns on who has to travel.

  13. HawaiianAndProud August 28, 2018 4:14 am

St Louis recruits, Punahou recruits blah, blah, blah……..so does many of the OIA schools too! Come one people, be truthful. How many of Mililani’s kids are on a GE? All of a sudden all these sole’s moved to Mililani? Stop throwing stones in a glass house. You want to see real recruiting? That’s schools like Bishop Gorman and IMG. They recruit from around the country. Mater Dei recruits from a state of 40 million people compared to Hawaii(1.43 million). Honolulu 352,000 people and Los Angeles 19 million. The recruiting advantage a team in California has over one in Hawaii is NO COMPARISON!

That being said, that is true, our top teams need more exposure to top mainland teams. The cost is the issue. Don’t be haters. Whenever one of our teams gets national attention, we should be celebrating that, not hating. It’s better for football in our state….period. It brings college recruits for all our athletes in Hawaii. Thank you teams like St Louis, Kahuku, Kapolei and a few others, who bring the recruits here to see our local boys……stop throwing stones and stop being a’ama crabs in a bucket!

  14. Kamehameha #! August 28, 2018 4:50 am

Not a St. louis fan but I will say this! This is the best St. louis team Cal Lee ever had at St. louis. Also, as a college recruiter and a former college and hs coach, This is the best HS team I have ever seen play before. Its pretty scary how good this team is and you guys are absolutely right, no team from Hawaii will come close to testing St. louis this year. I would be scared if I was an oia parent having my kid play against them monsters. Will see what happens cause they might end up playing Mililani in the playoffs and Mililani will have played the top team in the nation…then will compare the two beatings and see which one is more severe!

  15. TooMeke August 28, 2018 5:47 am

    zzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz…is it Friday yet?

  16. nogreeneye August 28, 2018 8:50 am

Let’s see, the quarterback from Kahuku that transferred to a mainland college prep school was “recruited” for better educational opportunities and athletic exposure to mainland college football programs. But no one talks bad about that “recruitment”. But when local private schools do the same thing, it’s bad for the community. Time to put your 70’s style hatred of private schools to rest and just be happy the players are getting opportunities to better their lives through education and sports. So what if it’s the private school across the island or even the public school in the next district, just be happy for the players.

  17. Dafun August 28, 2018 11:07 am

Toomeke everyone here is wondering if you even went to kahuku along with your aliases awrite and anyways.

  18. Yo mom August 28, 2018 11:14 am

You guys are all a joke first you want the ILH to play in a OIA schedule which now they are and dominating at that you want the to schedule teams like Mater Dei and Bosco. No team could compete with those schools. There like small D1 schools at this point. Everybody’s mad hatvthe saints are on top but if any other team was ranked that high everybody would hope for the best. Too many haters during football season especially when half you never even play

  19. TooMeke August 28, 2018 11:37 am

Dafun…everyone is wondering if you actually attended classes when you was da water boy at St LuLu…

    HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

pst – were the priests ‘nice’ to you? lol………

  20. Hawaii five 0 August 28, 2018 11:49 am

    Yo mom
St. Louis won the past 2 state titles how you gonna say they cant compete with bosco or mater dei.. they going be underdogs but they got a shot at beating those top teams.. but the question is will Cal lee travel to play those top teams? I heard it over the radio that Cal Lee wants St. LOUIS to be #1 nationally. The only way to be the Best, you got to beat the best!

  21. TooMeke August 28, 2018 1:13 pm

hawaii five 0 – see Bishop Gorman…and their loss to Mater Dei this past weekend. End of story.

  22. ??? August 28, 2018 3:48 pm

    @Kamehameha #!
WOW, STL played 2 games and you’re calling them the best team EVER?
If you was a REAL former recruiter, college/Hs coach you would hold your comment till after they play Punahou, Kahuku, Mililani, Kam and Campbell before calling them better than Timmy Chang, Darnell Arceneaux or Jason Gesser’s Dominant teams!

  23. Awrite!! August 28, 2018 4:58 pm

In order for Cal Lee to shoot for #1 in the Nation (as he said on the radio) he has to suppress Hawaii teams and get them in lock down first. Cant be #1 in the nation if you are not #1 in Hawaii.

How? The First step was to merge the OIA and ILH, why? because Kahuku is a REAL threat should the two meet in the title game. Cant be #1 in the nation if you lose the last game of the season to Kahuku. The ILH folks were jealous and crying that when Kahuku was winning their titles they had a cake walk into the tourney and only had to beat the ILH team ONCE. WHINERS!!!!

Cal Lee and all those FEFE STL alums reasoning is that if Kahuku has to play STL/PUN multiple times during the season, the ILH can figure Kahuku out and be better prepared should they meet in the title game.

This is the reason why the ILH is hated upon so much. Cant stay in yo own lane. Gotta cramp everyones style and always find ways to buy/recruit to your advantage and impose your will upon the weak OIA conference. Then walk around town all puffy chest!

RECRUIT ALL YOU WANT – DISARM all the Other OIA schools and siphon their talent. Get the whole state to jump on your bandwagon but Kahuku will be Kahuku so stay out of our parks with yo sorry recruiting tactics.

At least when Punahou recruit Kahuku district they leave ulu and cornbeef on our doorsteps.

  24. Straight Facts August 28, 2018 7:20 pm

STL has top of the line facilities and players. Especially with their recruiting, they’re a hard to beat team. They know what players to recruit and how to get them there. Let’s hope they can compete for higher national rankings one day. They seem to get their way a lot. Maybe they might pull this one off!

  25. Awrite!! August 28, 2018 11:34 pm

    Think about it.

Merging with the OIA and beating down on Waianae, Farrington, Leilehua etc. every week is eventually gonna lower the morale of those schools football players, to the point where the families will throw in the towel and say….”if we cant beat um, join um”. The poor get poorer and the rich get richer. – STL and PUN will reap the rewards of players wanting to transfer to them (indirect recruiting). STL/PUN dont need droves of players, only one or two of the ELITE players from each school district.

Recruiting is not an event its a process. Reputation, Prestige is a weapon in the Recruiting process. Marketing your program as the authority in Football via camps, off season workouts, Alumni networks is all part of the “RECRUITING” process.

You hit the nail on the head @Straight Facts – “They (STL) know what players to recruit and how to get them there.”

Kahuku also had a way of getting our alumni kids to return home and play for big red, by winning titles and boosting Kahukus popularity. When Kahuku wins football titles we take food off the ILH table. The ILH dont like that and they want to take all the food back. Sadly they cant do it with out Money and recruiting.

  26. Dafun August 29, 2018 2:14 am

I didn’t know you had phones and computers out there in laie. Thought u guys just had coconuts you used to comment on this site. Mind you kahuku struggled in the first half against waianae. Who’s absolutely horrible this year. Tells you something doesn’t it?

  27. TooMeke August 29, 2018 5:24 am

@Dafun…shows how much you know about Hawaii HS FB…

“Tells you something…”? Yeah, tells me a lot of OIA teams were missing a lot of key players the first two weeks due to grades…same story at the beginning of every season…(somehow Kahuku wasn’t as bad as they normally are in this area this year). And then all those players were back in uniform for Waianae for the first time for Kahuku game. And that’s one of our oldest rivalries…always going to be competitive to a certain extent…usually until 2nd half.

DUUUUUUUUUUHHHHH… stop posting already… this is an adult comment section… you not there yet… and it’s woefully obvious… as is your St LuLu level of academia (or rather, the lack thereof).

    HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    RRFL

  28. ??? August 29, 2018 9:52 am

    @ILH
I just proved my point again!
    USA Today Super 25:
Mater Dei record 1-1 ranked 3rd
St Louis record 2-0 ranked 13th!!
STL will NOT be ranked in top 5 without playing 3-4 Top 15 teams a year. (FACT)

  29. Dafun August 29, 2018 10:47 am

Toomeke you didn’t even go to kahuku so why you all for them?

  30. ALLILH August 29, 2018 5:59 pm

TOODumby and friends that saying OIA teams not at full strength because of academics. Please take care your schooling first as got more too life than just football…..oh yeah I forgot for people like you that’s all there is. Couldn’t win it yourself so now living through these kids and just making excuses for why they can’t win. Of course you can’t win if you don’t get on the field . Oh I forgot, you guys are IDIOTS!
