Final: Punahou 38, ‘Iolani 18

Update 9:06 p.m. The Buffanblu withstood a second-half aerial attack by the Raiders to win their regular-season opener. Punahou’s defense had five takeaways to stifle the Raiders, who kept the pressure on with Reece Foy, who passed for 391 yards and three touchdowns.

4:40 p.m. Punahou has a 24-6 lead at ‘Iolani after one half thanks to three touchdown passes by Larry Tuileta.

The sophomore has touchdown passes to K.J. Sekona, Malik Johnson and Kyle Dyas. Punahou’s defense has dominated the half with the exception of a late drive that netted a touchdown pass from Reece Foy to Tanner Nishioka.


Punahou set the tone early with running back Steven Lakalaka, who has 63 yards on 12 carries. Tuileta is 11-for-21 for 96 yards after a slow start.


Foy was picked off twice by Punahou’s defense, with returns by Zach Hernandez and Chase Sakai setting up short scoring drives.
